I was planing on waiting awhile since I just got a Colt 6920, but the BX has all 9mm on sale. I've narrowed it down to the following 3. Please no suggestions on different pistols or calibers I chose the 9mm and am sticking with it. Your input on which one would be better and why. Prices are in the ballpark.

Springfield XD $412 OTD
Smith&Wesson M&P9 $ 461,updated couple hours after original post, just found out about s&w military rebate, bring total to $411
Walther P99 $not sure yet, I know it will be a little higher

I handled both the M&P9 and XD today, liked they way both felt, preferred the M&P9. Thought the XD was a little front heavy if that makes sense. They didn't have a P99 in stock and won't have one by the time the sale goes off. The sites were the same on both just the plane jane. Probably upgrade down the road. Essentially the 2 I held today are the same, just different manufactures.

Suggestions are welcome.

The first handgun I purchased for myself was a P99 in .40 It started an avalanche of guns that haven't stopped...

My first handgun purchase was the M&P9. I have since added many more flavors/brands to my collection. Be warned you just can't have one.

Started with an XDm9 which I then sold to buy an M&P9. I still own the M&P9..and have a Compact now to go with it. But I also picked up an XDm 5.25 9mm for competition...

Each gun has things I like and dislike. But for the purpose of the original purchase, I swapped over to the M&P series. When it came time to carry a concealed pistol...I again went with the M&P series. For competition, I dont mind the grip safety on the XDm...but for a gun I may have to use in a life or death situation I simply do not want it. I think we have all read the self defense story here where Blitz had his hands shot to bits. I dont want to have to worry about a grip safety when my life hangs in the balance.

It is up to you to decide what you are going to use the gun for. After that, its just a matter of finding the one with all the characteristics you like and none of the ones you dislike.

EDIT: As a side note. I would be 100% Glock all the way if they didnt feel like a block of wood in my hand. Comfort does play a role for me.

All three are great choices, but the Walther is in a different league. It's like Ford, Chevy, or BMW? Pick the one you like best. If you're anything like rest of us, you'll eventually own all three anyway.

I own them all if you consider an HS2000 to be an XD. I think the M&P is the best of the lot, but none are slouches..

Of the three you mentioned, that would be my pick. The trigger isn't half bad.

It isn't half good either.

Not until you throw apex $120

M&P Apex'd out or a GLock even though it's not on your list.

You might look at the PPQ. Great trigger but might be too light for some folks.

All are good handguns. Of the three, I'm more partial to the P99.

That's a matter of preference. The Apex isn't really necessary in my opinion, since I have no issues with the M&P's trigger personally.

I have owned 6 glocks, an XDm, a 1911, LCP, a pt99, and a M&P9....

My vote...goes to the M&P 9. As much as I like glock, the M&P is winning me over everytime I shoot it.

I carry the XD9 as my daily carry. All Day Every Day. Having said that, it sounds like you should get that M&P.

well with alot of overwhelming support for the mp, and having handled one(not shot), it is my favorite so far, haven't gotten to mess with the p99, hitting up couple pawn shops today to try and find one for feel. indoor gun range doesn't have one at the moment, but i'm thinking i'll go the mp route especially at $411 don't think you can beat that bang for the buck

All great guns in my opinion, just get whatever feels the best in your hand.

Apex kits are 90.

Either way, the M&P with an apex trigger will give you one of the nicest set up modern combat handguns out there.

M&P gets my vote of those three, without any question or hesitation. Infact I'd be hard pressed to recommend anything else no matter what your list consisted of. They're great setups.

Glock 17 Gen 3.

From your list M&P.

How difficult is it to install an Apex kit? I have two M&P Compacts, one in 9 and the other in .45.

Why not PPQ instead of P99? I love my M&P, but that PPQ felt a lot better.

Get the M&P you will not regret the choice.
Link Posted: 11/18/2012 11:40:06 AM EST
I've owned all three. I like the M&P the best, and I have sold the other two because I simply didn't use them much after buying the M&P.

They are all nice guns, I simply like shooting the M&P more. I also think the M&P has several small advantages that in combination make it a better buy.

The price with your rebate is hard to beat.

Fitting user name...

Ive owned 3 different M&P pistols, two of which are 9mm, and none of them had accuracy issues.

My only experience with M&p is my shield and it has been exemplary, I used to own an xd45(does that say enough) and I would like PPQ.

They gave me a new barrel...my M&P 9 is from 2008 and wasn't the greatest shooting pistol. II'm also getting a new locking block as soon as they are available.
