held a sig 228 and a 229. I liked the 228 better.(lighter, seemed more balanced). they had a mint used two tone for $715 with 2 mags. A black 228 1 mag for $575 also mint (used) and a new 228 bi tone for $850 new, cant decide on which one to buy i liked them all.

I prefer to buy NEW guns ...

1 out of the 4 Sigs that I have I bought new.  The other 3 I purchased used.  What gunshop in CT did you go to? There is nothing wrong with used guns.  Just look them over a little closer before you buy one.  Oh yeah any flavor of the P228 is better than the P229 9mm IMO.

Did you check Hoffmans? A buddy of mine got a 228 up there about 2 months ago for $499 and it was like new and had night sights. Check Hoffmans if you haven't already as they seem to have a few Sigs in the used section all the time. I got no problem buying used. We're not all rich like BiggyD You can get good deals and good products for hundreds less.  

For a 9mm the 228 is a little better handling than the 229 but I love my 229 .40 which I carry. I'd get the black 228 as I don't like two tone but you buy what you like. Any of them will work fine.
