i have a Custom i bought new in 9/97.  it has a serial# in the 15,000 range made in Yonkers.
my question is about the slide.  it is a very noticable  "purple".  i have just recently heard of others having this.  is it common?  is it safe?  i like it!  it is a very funky bi-tone.

Appears to be fairly common from that time period.

It would be caused by the particular combination of heat treating and bluing treatment at that time, not by any problem with the gun itself.

Refinish it if you dont like the looks.
