I have a colt gold cup 80 pistol....
Have been thinking of mounting a optima 2000 on it..... Got a few questions...

1.)  Does the mounting plate replace the rear sight?
2.)  Will the "general" colt 1911 mount plate fit my GC?
3.)  How hard is it to remove the rear sight?
4.)  ANY pictures of 1911's with the optima 2000 (or compareable) please post.......

Thanks

tim

The scope mounts I've seen  either require removal of the front sight, or sit high enough so that the sights won't have to be removed...

Most 1911 scope mounts (at least all the ones I've seen) mount directly to the frame (drilling/tapping required)...I've not seen one that mounts to the slide.

But, I haven't seen everything, so there may be some out there that mount to the slide

Lemme see if I can answer some of your ?'s...

1.)  Does the mounting plate replace the rear sight?

Yes, it is dovetailed to same specs as factory weapon, however there are so many variation's of rear sights on 1911 pistols, you need to double check that a mount is made for it.

2.)  Will the "general" colt 1911 mount plate fit my GC?

depends on the dovetail cut.

3.)  How hard is it to remove the rear sight?

Usually, with the right tools fairly simple
