I'm looking at getting another 1911. I'm looking at the r1s stainless model. A guy locally here bought a Remington and said within 200 rounds it wouldn't fire so he sent it back for repair, he didn't even know how to take it apart to see what was wrong. Is this common? I want a good durable gun and one of the detractors is that the Remington is series 80.

Depending on your budget, I'd recommend looking at a Colt or Springfield first.

Buy a Springfield it's a better gun and company. Not a whole lot more money.

For the money Springfield. But going off someone who sends a gun back for repair without knowing how to do a basic disassembly to get an idea of what's wrong is probably not good.

Also consider the Ruger SR1911, I've got two steel frame commander versions and like them; I read a lot of positive comments on various forums before purchase.
