Where is the best place to get ammo for my new field artillery? What's the best load?

If your talking "commercial loads" there are really only 2 or 3 makers of 50ae.
The 350gr softpoints give a nice kick and let ya feel it.
The lighter hollow points blows things up nicely and just look plain menacing.
Look to spend around $30/box or less. That's the going rate these days.

Speer
Samson
Starline???
I've found all to shoot well and cycle reliably.

I think it's $30 or more from what I've seen. And Magnum Research/IMI makes loads for it also, that are the cheapest I've seen.

Are the IMI/MR rounds made by Sampson?

For some reason I think they are two names selling the same ammo.

Hmm. Don't know. I'll look at the box on my next run to the fun shop.

Currently, the MR stuff is made by 2 companies. The 300gr XTP-HP's are Hornady. The 350gr JSP's are Speer. IIRC, Samsom isn't producing their line of ammo for MR anymore. (But I've been wrong before).

Speer also makes the Gold Dot HP's in 300gr and 325gr in .50AE.

Here's where I get mine.

I roll my own. Lee makes dies, just don't expect to get a ton of loads out of the brass. I cut it off at 5 reloads and have occasionally seen signs of stress even at that low a count.
