As always this is an informal, and unscientific test, but here's a test I did a couple of months ago trying to get a good understanding of penetration and wound channels from pistol rounds. In this video, I tested the Federal HST 230gr +P HST against a 9.75lb pork shoulder. What I found interesting was the over 1" expansion, compared to normal water jug testing of the same round. I assume the extra expansion casued the shorter penetration depth, but the wound channel itself is pretty good.

Understandable. I generally will measure the widest and narrowest sections as Doc uses, just didn't remember the average off hand. I'm used to seeing .85" or thereabouts (again talking widest section) when I've shot milk jugs in the past with the same round.
