Newer P99 mags work as well. In fact one of the mags that came with my PPQ is stamped P99.
I remember reading someplace that there is some small detail with the older P99 mags that prevent them from being compatible, but i dont remember what it was if anyone cares to explain.

The front lip on the older style P99 mags were taller and interfere with the feed ramp on the PPQ. Older P99 mags can be modified by cutting this portion down if you know what you are doing. The new style P99 mags don't have this problem which is what makes this a confusing mess if you don't know what you are looking at.
