Just got the email. 228's back in stock, probably won't last long. Not cheap ($465) but I doubt you'll find them for less.
I'm saving for something else but I'm very tempted to add another 228 to my collection.
Picked it up today ve ry happy with it, just as advertised decent holster wear but other wise great.

I just got mine in...beautiful condition. Very little hosts wear and the night sights are good. I think I might have to sell my 226

I just ordered one. I am really looking forward to it because I really like my P226R.
I had the chance to handle one today. The gun fits perfectly. The only potential drawback is the caliber. I'm trying to convince myself that 9mm is enough.

One person has mentioned night sights. The website doesn't mention night sights. Has anyone else ordered one that came with night sights?
I saw someone mentioned theirs was in good condition. I saw another post on sigforum where the guy posted pictures and his has extreme holster wear. Not sure if that matters to anyone, but it seems some are decent and some look really worn. it would be nice if they had a handpick option.

Received my 228 from Wideners last week. Dead night sights. Heavy holster wear on the top of the slide behind the ejection port. It is hard to wear through the slide finish in a SIG, but mine has bare shiny metal showing. Has an engraved crest of some type on the top of the slide behind the ejection port, but the wear makes it hard to make out. Frame, is perfect. Numbers match. Interesting to get so much holster wear on the steel slide and so little wear on the aluminum frame. Shoots reliably and accurately. Came with but one magazine. I will order some from Mark at Summitt.
Redmond Wa and PW Arms are just a few miles from me. I am going to have to see if I can develop a little relationship there. PW imported all those great P6s a few years ago. |
Anyone take any pictures they can add to this thread yet? Also, does anyone know who had these P228s before they were imported?

I asked them and they said they were part of the Swiss Military and Law Enforcement.

I ordered mine today Will ship out middle of next week
OH well... I guess I can wait When I spoke with the lady who took my order, she said they had sold a bunch |
Is it German ?
Under the slide, look for a 2 digit date code. IE: JK = 89 A=0 B=1 C=2 D=3 E=4 F=5 G=6 H=7 J=8 K=9 If you can't find a date...... From Sig's Web Sight I would like to know the age of my gun – how do I get that information?
If the gun was manufactured or imported by us, we can get the date of manufacture from our Records Department. This is offered as a service: SIG OFFICIAL DATE OF MANUFACTURE CERTIFICATE $49.95 To order, please call customer service @ (603) 418-8102 with a Visa, MasterCard or American Express. Please allow 2-3 weeks for research, printing and shipping |

Mine looks a little different than KaBar3's, I do not have the white logo he has on the left side. I have light holster wear. The tritium sights are visible, but appear dimmer then my other Sig. The only date code I could find was on the left side of the barrel, AE, so 04, I am guessing. I will post pictures if I get a chance. Overall I am satisfied with my purchase.

I don't see any date code but thanks for that Sidd. There is no way I'm paying that much just to find out what year it was made. That's ridiculous.
Shot the P228 today. Very accurate and soft shooting. I shoot 45 ACP so I can't compare to any other 9mm but I did find it pleasant to shoot. I also found myself holding down the slide release and causing the slide to not lock back after the last round. Overall I'm very pleased with the gun and look forward to getting some more trigger time with it. |

Did the 228's from Widener's come with a manual ?
Mine might/should be in tomorrow |

Darn.. well here is a PDF version, it's not on the american Sig Web site, but it is available on the German one.

West German ?
Mine did not show up today Widener's shipped it Postal service.. |

Mine says "Made in Germany" on the right side, but I don't know how to tell if it is West German. It came from Widener's in a plain white box wrapped in bubble wrap with one 13 round magazine marked Leo only.

How you guys like the stock grips? How close are they to the Hogue grips? I was thinking of picking up a set of stock grips that say P228 just to have or switch with my current Hogue Sig grips.

My 228 (bought it several years ago), had both the wood and regular plastic grips with it. The wood ones are alright, but the standard plastic grips make it easier to hold on to. The stipling molded into them gives a decent grip. Although, one of these days, I want to either swap them out for either G10 grips or Sig E2 grips. |

I bought a W. German 228 a few years ago (love it!) and it came with the plastic Sig grips that we see in some posts above. I bought a set of the Hogue rubber grips for it. They feel great, but they are fatter in the hand than the factory grips. I love the texture/feel of the Hogues though. Anyway, I put the Sig plastic grips back on it,, as they better suit my small ass hands. I think they look better too. |
I only have experience with the factory plastic grips. I have never felt like I was not able to control the pistol, but they don't eat up my hand either.
