Looking at the 229R real hard, but the weight is a real turn off....

I only see a weight difference of a couple ounces on their website.
ETA: the SS 220 is a whole 10 ounces heavier than a 229R.

Wider frame with a rail, plus it lacks the huge whole through the barrel that the .45 has?

I recently bought a 229R and absolutely LOVE IT !!
My 226s, 220 and 228 are the older stamped slides and I really can't tell a difference in weight.
Mmmmmmmmm, SIGs !!

You must be one of them little fellas. My concealed carry piece is a Sig 220 carried in a VMII with a Don Hume belt. Never had a problem with that pistol's weight. Even when it's hauling around 9 rounds of 230gr. lead. My next one will probably be a 229 in .357 SIG. I just love that round. MJD

As I read the current 220 gets a solid slide from now on, for better or for worse.

Stamped Sig's balance wonderfully for me,.. Sig seems to be going to all milled slides as of late, I guess the 220 has held out till now only because its not available in 40shortandweak and .357sig....Udog

The 229 was beefed up to handle the .40 S&W and .357Sig rounds...high pressures as compared to .45, with a fair bit of recoil to 'em.

Compare it to a Sig 228, which is 9mm only...

Evil ed hit it on the nose. Just get a good belt and holster and you will be fine. And you can feel confident in the strength of the milled slide.

As for the .40 caliber being short and weakhock.gif well If your staring down the barrel of a sig fohtee your gonna feel "stupid & worthless"

I CCW my 229R/9mm in a Bianchi 100 Pro everyday, and the weight certainly doesn't bother me.
