In your opinion?  What say you? Full size mags?

Either Wilson Combat or Tripp Research Cobra mags. I use them both and would put them neck and neck as far a quality goes.

Wilson Combat are pretty good. I use the standard 47D's. I actually had one give me a problem on the last camping trip, it failed to lock the slide back, but the gun was very dirty and I guess the mag was too. Once I got everything cleaned up it locked it back...not really sure what to make of it. Never had a single failure to feed out of Wilson mags.

As I posted two days ago:

I'm unbiased since I don't own any of these.  That being said, I've never heard anyone legitimately speak ill of Tripp, Wilson, or Chip McCormick.

I use Wilson 47Ds, ETMs, Tripp Cobras, Kimber TacPro and Brown 8-Packs, and all are excellent.  But I think the Tripp Cobra magazines are the best.

Wilson Combat and Chip McCormick are the best IMO.  Several others get top marks also but these I can vouch for.

There are several that I have experience with that I am very happy with and cover a broad range of prices.
Wilson magazines have never failed me and I consider them premium nuff said $30+
Colt Factory magazines 7 round stainless function very well in my Govt model $20
Metalform magazines are a great value I just picked up a handful at $8.99 each and they all run no issues. (I have heard they make Colt factory mags)?

I did some testing on some c-products magazines and the stainless versions worked well but I had multiple issues with the black version from C-products in the $12-$14 range. They seemed to run better after I had a few hundred rounds through them.

The good thing about the 1911 aftermarket magazine choices is that there are great mags at every price point.

Low cost, Best mags would be Metalform... work perfect. Keep it loaded, come back in a year, flawless function.

Mid level would be Chip Mccormick... however, their power + is getting up there in price.

Top level.. Wilson, Ed Brown 8 pack, Tripp, and Les Baer mags have proven to be the best for me... cost is similar between them.

For range work.. and for the wide range of offerings (9mm, .40 cal, 10mm, ect.. ect..) the metalforms are hard to beat for the price.

For SHTF I would trust tripp, wilson, ect...

+1 for Tripp. The factory colts I used failed to feed anything. YMMV.

I've bought mostly CMC Power mags and have been extremely happy with them. Tripp and Wilson are tops as well.

Personally, if C-Products would put a different spring in their 1911 mags, they'd have a winner as well.
L->R Cproducts, Cproducts, CMC PowerMag, CMC PowerMag+, CMC PowerMag+, Wilson 47D.

I was thinking about rebuilding the C-products with Wilson innards you think they would be worth the effort?

What is the difference between the CMC Power Mags and the CMC Power Mag Plus?  Other than ~$5...

I like Chip McCormick Shooting Stars, though I bought a good bit of them for $8 a pop. Never had a problem with them, and they've been around forever.

Metalform, Checkmate, or both?

Power Mag Plus has a different follower that does not shift forward after feeding the last round. The Power Mag has the same type of follower as the Shooting Star mags, which can shift forward after feeding the last round and gouge the frame (if it has an alloy frame....steel frames aren't affected). Regular power mags work fine in steel framed guns.

I swear by the Wilson Combat 47s... not the 47D...

I wasn't impressed with the Tripp Research ones, especially at the price they're asking...

I just think a new spring would make the mags perfectly reliable. The stainless mag with less friction inside the tube has fed well, but it doesn't engage the slide stop fully. The black mag, with slightly more friction on the follower due to the coating, always fails to lock the slide back.

They work really well with a CMC powermag spring, but I only did it for a test. I need to order some Wolff springs to put in them so they'll actually lock the slide back reliably.

Different follower. I'm not sure what the other guy is saying about the "captured" follower because they don't even have a notch on the bottom to keep it connected to the spring. They have the typical bent steel follower, but on the +'s, the top portion that contacts the rounds is actually thin instead of the same width as the rest of the tube. I'm not sure if they improve function or not, but the only CMC mag I've had an issue with was one of the +'s. They had an early Power + and a redesigned one. One of them likes to ride over top of the slide stop and be a pain in the ever loving ass to pull out of the gun. I've got 3, I don't recommend spending the extra money on them. Just buy the PowerMags and be happy.

I'm looking for mags too and this is pretty consistent with all of the forums I have visited with thread about mags.

McCormick is my preference, but when I competed with Metalform I shot thousands of rounds without any problems.  Don't know if they're still around.
