A local dealer is selling police trade in pistols for $300.  I can get a Beretta 96D or a Smith& Wesson Model 5903 9mm.
I already have a 9mm, but the stainless/alloy of the Smith is a plus.
I would also like to have a .40.
I can only buy one.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

9mm all the way, just like gas ammo is never going down in price!

I think you can swap the slide on a 96D with a 92FS slide, and with a mag or two, you now have two calibers available.

(I stress: I THINK you can, but since I don't have a 96D, I can't confirm it.)

96D

I second Tomislav's post, though. I do think it is possible, I saw a few officers in my regiment that had flat mag baseplates in Iraq.
