I'm looking to add another 1911 to the collection. Must have a rail, good sights, front strap checkering, be reliable, and not a kimber. Prefer to keep it under $2,000. I like the trp but hate the rear sight. Anyone know when the dan wesson specialist will be available?

Um, a rear sight is really easy to swap out.

Not sure of the cost on the Specialist, but the TRP is a damned good pistol. Do a search; some Les Baers might come in at your price range. My next pistol is going to be a Baer...or a Springfield Professional.

I know it's an easy swap, but there's only one fixed replacement that i know of. The trp is still on my list but it's not first. I've seen people doing preorders for the specialist under $1700. How much does the professional go for?

Czcustom shows the DW specialist in stock in stainless finish for $1400. Seems like a steal to me.

May I step in here to ask why not a Kimber? I've had 1911's before, so I'm not a stranger to them, but I'm recently rekindling an interest in them. Heck, the last 1911 I had was a Kimber and I thought it was okay. Is there somethign I should know about?

I currently have 3 of them and love them. They're reliable and shoot very well, but i'm tired of chasing rust. I opened the case that had my tactical entry today after it being closed for a couple weeks to find it had rust on the slide and rear sight. The rust on the slide was deep enough to have slight pitting that's barely visible. It all wiped away, but it's getting old. I have a tactical custom model that has been stored in a friends safe for about a year and i'm scared to see what it looks like. If it wasn't for the rust issue with them i'd keep them and just get something else for the hell of it but having to clean rust off the slide, barrel, and sights all the time isn't something that i should have to do with the money i spent.

Go  handle a SIG TACOPS. They make a dam fine 1911.

sti duty one.  Dawson precision usually has them and can change almost anything on it.

Wont any railed 1911 holsters work?  I have a 20$ fobus that works fine also a blackhawk dropleg thats universal and works with a light or without.

You can find a used wilson or NH for under 2k.

My choice would be an S&W E series at around 1k.

I actually ended up getting a non railed trp and put a deposit on a Dan Wesson guardian in .45. I ended up getting nothing with a rail but had also wanted the non railed version for a while too. I walked into the local shop and when I held it I had to hand over the money. Decided to let the other half go shopping with the rest since she makes good sammiches.

Buy yourself two Sig 1911's.

I have AR's that cost more than my first car (and I'm only 34), but I think you'd have to spend a bit more than $2,000 to get a gun that's noticeably better than the Sig.

ETA - I just saw you already pulled the trigger (pun intended).  Good luck with your new toys!
