No debate about relative stopping power or "I'd only ever carry a .45" please.

For those of you that carry a .380, what ammo do you use and why?

FMJ.

If JHPs expand, they tend to underpentrate pretty badly when fired from a .380.

Remington's standard 85gr JHP.
It was the only JHP ammo I could rely on to feed reliably in my PPK.

90grn Cor-Bon HPs here.

Mike

ETA - as to why....., it was the heaviest weight, highest MV 380 HP round I could find and it feeds reliably in my Colt Mustang.

That's exactly the gun I'm looking to feed.

90gr Federal JHPs.....They penetrate just fine for the size of the weapon.

Hydra-Shoks.

My gunstore had them, and they fed well.

Seriously, does anyone really carry .380?

Isn't that 9mm on stunn?

Not trying to get you guys riled up, just seems a little (lot) on the light side.

It is light, thats why I carry one.  Its better to have my P232 in my belt that my Hi Power at home in my safe.  I am not wearing a jacket in Texas summers to hide my gun.

Hydra-shoks always fed fine from my Colt Mustang, so thats what I carried exclusivly when I carried the Mustang.  I loved having a gun in a decent defensive caliber that I could carry wearing swim shorts and a t-shirt.  I also loved living in Alabama, where I had a carry permit.  The Mustang's nothing but a safe queen now.

NOW that you opened the can of worms... I live in LA which blows TX or AZ away in heat comfort, because we have 110% relative humidity here. I carry a 4" WC 1911 with no jacket and no problems under a t-shirt. Given the many applications made for CCW there is no reason NOT to carry a manstopping load.

As for carrying a .380 as a BACKUP, I don't have any practical exp to give you any advice for the best load, but I would consider what others are advising you re FMJs & penetration. Seems like a persuasive argument to me if HPs lose sig penetration.

I carry Win SXT's in 95 in my p3at.  I went with the heaviest round I could find easily in my area.  They are accurate and reliable out of my gun.

There are days when I cannot or simply don't want to carry something as large as my Beretta 92FS.

The PPK was the "when we can't carry a HiPower" gun for the SAS in NI, and that's a pretty good endorsement.

Poster asks to not start a debate about how other calibers are better then the .380....less then 20 posts later, someone does anyway...And I have been baited :P

Anyways, I feel the .380 has enough power to be a decent man stopper. Sure, you are probably better off with a 9mm, .40, .45 ect, ect, ect. But none of those can match the small size and concealablity of my kel-tec. Could I hide a bigger gun in t-shirt and jeans? Probably. But the fact of the matter is, my kel-tec is so small and light that I know I will grab it everytime and be able to conceal it without any trouble. In extreme situations, I can just throw it in my pocket. So I know I will be carrying it at all times.

FMJ for reliability and penetration.

I also carried FMJ in a P32 before I picked up the .380 for the same reasons.

Has anybody actually used the heavier 102gr Rem. Golden Saber and had any reliability issues with it?

I have used Golden Sabre in my PPK with good results, but every gun is unique in what it likes.I also shoot a lot of Winchester silver tips and they work fine also.Lot's of luck.
