I just bought a Springfield XD-45 (yeah, I got the 5" Tactical!)
I was looking at these two ammo choices at my local gun store,
and I would like feedback here before I buy one or the other.

Same bullet, different packaging. TAP ammo cost more.

Only differences I'm aware of, (FWIW, there may be a slight difference in MV between the 2 choices, but doubt it's enough to warrant concern).

Mike

ETA - tacked to the top of the AR15 Ammunition forum is a thread which will show you the best SD choice for the 45acp and the XTP bullet from Hornady while decent is not the top choice, which belongs to the Winchester Ranger.

This is a dumb question: Where can I get the Winchester Ranger in 230 grain?

contact mr jerry ("5532JWK"); he has an ad for Win Ranger T ammo in the HG forum in the EE

great man to deal with, great pricing, and he sells the Win Ranger Ts!

FWIW a guy that works for Hornady told me it has 2 differences. First is a special slick black nickel, and a flash retardant. And I do know a guy with a custom 1911 that has had many jams with other ammo and swears by this stuff.. I own a good bit of it but I carry Federal HST and feel it’s better ammo.

no no no. . .
what he's trying to ask is what is the difference between 'TAP' and XTP bullets.

Hornady TAP bullets are the same as the XTP's only loaded in a special nickel case and use flash suppressed powder.

TAP= Tactical application police.

it's good ammo - and probably pretty accurate too

Neither of which has a bearing on the bullet differences.

Thanks, guys. The Hornady is an XTP, not an SXT, my bad...
but y'all got the drift. I'm pretty excited about this new pistol,
And I want to feed it well. Does the Ranger ammo have a flash retardent?

To break in and for practice, I'll use Winchester and American Eagle 230 grain ball.
ARs take about 300-400 rounds to break in. How many to break in an XD-45?

Winchester Ranger's are expensive, check the best SD defense loads in the link provided several posts up.  Speer gold dots are on there and are readily available and not quite as expensive as the rangers.
