I've got a 4" xd 45 and shoot mostly at 25 yards, but sometimes go to 50 or 100 yards just to see if I can.

How far away are the targets at the range you shoot at?

Between 0 and 50yds mostly.
Sometimes I'll push it to 100 yds and more just messing.

I was screwing around one day and shot at a mag full at an old ~4x8 steel panel on my farm around 250-300 yards away.... and hit it 8/13 rounds

Talk about lobbing it in

I have put 13 rounds from my XD 45 into a 1/2 sized sillouette at 50 yds. I wouldn't call it a good group, but I hit it every time.

i do most of my training shooting at defensive ranges ie 0-15yds, i do shoot a bit at 25yds too, and when i get bored i shoot at 50-100yds, and i have had great results. 4" at 50yds. with my service model xd .40, after i figured out the drop i was good to go,

These targets were shot at 5 yds.

Mainly defensive ranges, <25 yards.

mostly short range but sometimes at 50 yards with my xd.
Link Posted: 5/2/2008 5:29:55 AM EST
haven't tried farther than 50 yards

With scope on I try to hit plates at about the 200-300 yard range getting 10 out of 10 hits all day long

Now that you should realize I'm BSing you, I only go for 25 yards or less. Anything more should be with a long gun. Its possible with handguns but if your training for a defensive situation I don't see a 50-100yd+ shot ever happening nor would I ever want to take one.

Where I shoot I can just as easily try to shoot steel targets out to 100 yards, but I don't think I've ever pulled off that lucky of a shot. I'm glad to hear we're all shooting at about the same range. Sometimes I'll try to shoot a little farther out, but it's mostly for giggles and not real practice.

The range I use most often is indoor and only 50 feet (60 actually, but marked at 50 so that's where I stop my targets). I use B-29 targets - which are about 1/2 sized B-27's so they present the same silhouette as a B-27 at 50 yards. I shoot from between 30 and 50 feet away most of the time, and speed drills at 21 feet (90 feet, 150 feet and 63 feet respectively). When I use a regular B-27 at 7 yards I feel like I'm shooting the broad side of a barn.

The problem with using a reduced silhouette is point of aim. Point of aim is still only 50 feet away or less, so it could set you up for failure IRL, say shooting a BG 150 feet away (I can't imagine doing that is likely for other than a LEO), and you're point of aim is potentially a few inches different than what you've been practicing with.

if I owned an xd I would shoot it at 100 just to play around. Yesterday my friend and I were shooting pop cans at 100 yards with my open gun just for the hell of it. We weren't 100 percent but we did hit them consistantly. Then again we also didn't need to compensate for drop and a red dot is much less picky than iron sights. I have shot my 1911 .45 (iron sights) at 125 yards at clay pidgeons and can break them on a fairly regular basis also once I have down the drop. Then again, a real arfcommer could shoot sub moa groups at 1,000 yards with a loose hi-point .380, off hand, and blindfolded .

Normally 7-15 yards.

5-25 yards MAX.. mostly at 5-10yards.

You guys shooting 50+ yards.. is that offhand or off the bench?

I can usually barely keep all the shots on a 8.5"x11" piece of paper at 25yards with a few flyers.. but that's about it..

1000yrds

max i ever went w/ mine was ~40 yrds

When I've shot past 25 yards I don't consitently hit the target, it's just because there is something there to try to shoot at.

7-25yrds normaly.

Had my xd 45 4" out at the rang saturday night. I was having a good night hit the 50 yard target pretty consistantly, and actually hit the 100 yard 3 times out of about 7 or 8 shots. Just had one of those lucky nights I guess.

There was a guy at the West TN shoot Saturday who was shooting his XD .45 Service from a rest, at steel plates 100 yards away.

He hit 13 out of 13.

How big of targets was he shooting at? The target at my 100 yard range is bigger than an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper easily.
