I have had good experience with these:

EAA ST10 45 (HK USP clone) steel frame.

Tisas M16 (CZ75) clone:

SAR K2 (CZ97 clone?):

Taurus PT92 (Beretta M9/92 clone)

Any other recommendations (except 1911)?

Canik 55 / TriStar clones of the various CZ Guns have proven solid for me.

The SAR B6 would get the nod if it weren't for the backwards safety operation.

Jericho 941 is better than the original IMO.

I CCWed a 941FB and loved it.

I loved my Helwan 9mm!  It was heavy enough to do some real damage if you beaned someone in the head with it!

I'm not a fan of the Beretta 92 but I prefer the Taurus safety arrangement over the Beretta decocker.

I've played with the Taurus and it worked pretty good, I have no idea how well they would hold up compared to a Beretta.

The Armalite AR24 is a fully forged CZ75 copy.  Looks like a good starting point for a nice race gun.
