I remember seeing the adds a long time ago, but I never actually saw one in person.

IIRC, yes they were. My father and I looked at one several years ago. Didn't buy it because we just didn't have a need for the .38 super. I ended up with a .45 instead.

I've seen them, but there aren't too many around. Apparently most people thought about the same as martinayhem and there wasn't a huge market for it. I suppose if I wanted a .38 Super, it'd be the one I'd get, as I like my .45, but I too just don't have a need ofr one.

They're out there. The ones I've seen (two total) both had American mag releases.

Ancient history time-

I remember them in .38 Super when they were imported as Browning BDA's in the 80's.

Yup, had my greasy paws on one...in Cleveland and let it go as an unknown entity. [>Q]
The little shop had all 3 calibers of the then unknown to me future Sig.

I used to have one of the .45 BDA's. I already had the "American" P220 I have now, and I kept trying to push the non-existant mag release (it has a heel release). I got rid of it soon after.

I never had that problem with other guns, like a P-38, or my P9s, but the BDA was so close in feel to the other P220 that I would automatically go for the push-button that just wasn't there.

Worked just as well as any other Sig.

The whole reason Im asking is because I was contimplating a limit use 9x23

I know it'd be rough on an aluminum framed gun.

The idea was floating around over at Pistolsmith.com to convert it over. Not quite sure what the word is on that kine of conversion.

A few of the American style P220 38 Super's show up now and again. A local shop had one a while back (about 3 years ago). One came through my buddy's store and I bought it. Then I found another online (being sold here actually) and got it too. So I have 2 P220 38 Supers (American style mag release) and about 8 mags. I like the round...that's why I got it. I actually prefer it as as a carry gun most of the time.

Kaliburz,

Hows the accuracy and reliability? Are mags hard to find?

Im really thinking about getting one of these.

Well, it is a Sig and has the Sig reliability. Accuracy, well, I'm not that good, but if I recall, they head spaced it on the case not the "rim", so it's better then the early 1911 Supers. I'm thinking of sending mine to Sig for a trigger job, maybe.

The mags.... well, they are currently in stock on the Cheaper Than Dirt website....

www.cheaperthandirt.com/ctd/product.asp?dept%5Fid=122046&sku=29188&imgid=&mscssid=H36VAH6TR1068GST584BW4USHVNH72A5

Granted, the price is about $40.00 each, but they have 13 in stock....

I for got to mention, if you ever want one, you better buy mags when you see them.

The accuracy... well, at about 25 feet, a friend of mine can shoot off the lid of a 2 liter bottle. May take a few shots, but it can be done....
