I would check with Springfield to get exactly what was done and if possible by whom...that pistol looks nice and my experience with Springfield tells me it will be a nice pistol...some big name 'Smiths worked (and some still work) at Springfield's custom shop...thanks for sharing the pics.

i'd say about 1K
earlier in the year i actually got a quote from springfield to build a
pistol just like that but without front strap checkering and it was
going to run about 1400

ETA: you should get some VZs in black desert sand.

Interesting. I think I'm going to call SA with my SN and see what I can find out

Ok just got off the phone with them and they were friendly but couldn't offer any help. The lady ran my SN and all she could tell me was that it was made in July of 98 and it was built in the custom shop. I know I have the paperwork around here somewhere....lol

What's the finish?  Is the Springfield Custom shop logo on the slide somewhere?  Does the barrel have a name stamped?

it looks like a stainless finish on my new 27 inch iMac monitor and it does have engraved "Super Tuned" on the slide in the fashion that the Springfield custom shop uses...enjoy that pistol...

It is SS and it has the custom shop logo and "super tuned" roll marked on the slide. It is a beautiful pistol and I remember paying about 1500.00 for it back then when I turned 21 which was like a billion dollars for me but I wanted a nice 1911 an nighthawk wasn't around and I did some research and fell in love with it. I remember it took about 8 months to get after the initial order.

Well, a new Custom Carry (the standard custom shop gun) costs about $1700 MSRP right now - with no front strap checkering and with Armory Coat. Even with just 50 rounds, it is still a used gun. With the price you paid, I'd likely say  $1100. Many people will want a fully skeletonized hammer on a 1911 in that price range.

But the older Springers sure were built nice. I think the quality on the lower end ones were better then than now.

I don't know the years that Les Baer was at the custom shop, but its possible that he had a hand in making that one...

How cool would it be if Les helped make mine :)

Les was gone already if it was built 12 years ago. I'd put the price a little higher than everyone else IF you can find a buyer that knows what it really is.

Damn i was hoping that someone built it who now has their own company or so forth ,,,,,just kind of a cool thing i guess. Its immaculate and shes sitting right next to me lol. What i need to find now is a Springfield armory champion lightweight operator that someone wants to trade me for a new AR upper worth 1200.00. Or any railed 1911 for that matter but id like a 4' barrel

It doesn't really matter that much if a "name" built it, Springfield's Custom Shop has a very good reputation.

that's what I've heard. I've also heard that their cs is top notch. The slide to frame fit is nice and tight but slides like glass no binding. I don't think I've had anything else quite this long but I really like it. I'd like to get some other 1911s to me it's like their a fine piece of machinery.

Not and expert opinion, but as an educated enthusiast, I'd say that I'd pay at least what a used springer TRP is worth, and then probably a little more for a true custom shop springfield pistol.  It's a rather nice gun, but you really need to go shoot that thing!

I agree you should go shoot it...putting 100 or more rounds through it isn't going to kill it's value.

I started a similar thread in the " Springfield" section and somebody posted it's worth maybe 500. I was like WTF lol

Personally, I'd say keep it.  It's your first 1911, it's likely an excellent shooter, and is a great looking pistol.  These are the things family heirlooms are made of.

Shoot that sucker. It outta be good for at least 20,000 rounds. I hate to see a nice 1911 go to waste.

Am curious, it sounds like you put a lot of thought into what you wanted at the time you bought it, but you haven't fired it much?

Your right i did alot of research prior but then when i got it i function tested it with a box of 50 cleaned it but after that as queer as it sounds i admired it too much to shoot it. I knew it ran flawlessly and that was good enough for me. Shortly after i picked up my 1st glock and was shot the shit out of that but i just kept the springfield in the safe. It does however pull nightstand duty lol. I agree with you if your like wtf, i buy all my guns to use them and/or compete with them but this one was different for me. IDK i guess im just slightly retarded lol. Its not the monetary value of the gun i have others that dwarf the price of this one, maybe its that its my 1st 1911 i dont really know lol.

No, wasn't thinking WTF, was just curious is all, thought maybe you just decided you didn't like the 1911 or something.

But, it's a great pistol, and I bet if you start shooting it you'll appreciate it even more.    Plus, shooting it won't hurt it, and the stainless won't wear like blued gun would.
