I have had the following, USP 40, USP 40C, .40 Sig P226, .40 P229, .40 P239. I liked them all. Best bet is to just see which one feels the best to you. They will all be accurate and reliable.

It's literally like choosing a BMW over a Mercedes.

Which one do YOU like better. They will both be reliable, drive well, and last a LONG time.

USP40. Polymer is cool.

I'd pick SIG. The USP's ergonomics are subpar for me, hi-caps are spendy and hard to come by, and the prices have gotten Gawd-awful over the last 12 months, especially on the compacts.

I have a Sig P229 in .40 and an HK USP40 full size. I would hate to have to choose between them. Get both.

I carry a USPc in 40 and also have a 226. I've shot or held almost all of the other models. The trigger on the Sig is a world better than the one on the HK. Both are amazing handguns though. It's all personal preference. Either way, you can't go wrong. Best choice? One (or more) of each!

I'd second the vote for a Sig, but it's based purely on ergonomics for me. I really wish the HK fit me better, as I'd carry it cocked & locked like a 1911 if it did. I just can't get to that safety very fast on the HK. Might be due to an injury to my right arm, I'm not sure.
I can shoot a Sig better than almost anything else, except for that first shot. I guess I'm just too used to guns with a consistent trigger pull from start to finish. I used to practice with a Sig quite a bit and was getting better though, so I'm sure it would just be a matter of practice.

I love Sigs, I also love H&K firearms. I have seen +P++ ammo distort Sig magazines to the point of unuseable degree while functioning flawlessly in an H&K.

I also agree with others when they say "go with the one that feels good in your hand". I personally have a HK 40 compact. I bought it for the police academy when I went through. I use this gun and this one only to protect me!

buy both guns carry the sig strong handed, and the hk as a backup! nothing like surprising the crap out of a bad guy when you present with each hand full! hehehe just kidding, play with both and enjoy the one that feels good, and is easier for you to shoot.

I own a Sig 229 and a HK USPC. I probably like the Sig best but I wouldn't part with the HK either. Try both out if you can.

You gotta try before you buy.

I've shot both and I have a helluva time getting good shot placement with the H&K, but the Sig pistols act like an extension of my hand!

where are you in Texas? I am in DFW. I have both and you are welcome to shoot my guns. I have both my Sigs at ARS for a tune up, but the HK is at the house. My answer in short is both.

None, get a GLOCK

We were talking about REAL guns, not toys, Hunter.... Just kiddin, Glocks are really nice, but I'd take a Mark 23 over anything, but it's just too damn big to carry. So I'd get the USP. I have a SS USP in 40, and love it. Just be sure to get a Hogue grip for it, those stock Polymers are hard on your hands!
