Eh, every way I have tried to wear my G19 and Blade-tech just isn't working. How do you guys with single-digit body-fat carry? I need some help. Stuff doesn't sink in when I tighten my belt, it just stands out. I have no padding to hide this thing in. It looks hidious. "GUN!!!" it seems to yell.
Help on suggestions for cant/position/something. Anything. I am about to sell it and buy a pocket pistol. It wil lbeat leaving the G19 at home because I can't carry as it is. So far 4* with a cant placing the butt toward my front is the best I can do, and I still need a frickin mumu to hide this cannon. An inch anywhere on me stands out like crazy even in loose clothing. It just seems to lay right over it. Frustrating. |
|
Is that blade tech OWB? If so I would try something IWB. I probably have more body fat than you but I am a pretty small guy in general (5'10 160lbs) and I can conceal a G19 pretty easily under a t shirt at about 4 o'clock with about 15 degrees of forward cant.

It is a Bladetech IWB. I am 5'10 and 175. This thing sticks out like a sore thumb. I might as well open-carry. Rediculous. Maybe it's just because I know I am carrying? Maybe other people won't notice a massive buldge and my shirt riding up? Kinda like having a hardon while standing in front of the class and being the only one worried about it because noone else is paying attention to your nethers? |

Hrm odd..what kind of belt are you using? Are you having problems with the length of the grip or the width of the gun?

Any motion that removes my arms from my side makes it VERY! obvious that it is there. The belt sucks, and I am remedying that, but the belt isn't twisting or anything. You can't see it in my pants, even though the width of the weapon pulls them way away from me. It is seen in the huge buldge under my shirt. It looks like I have a massive love-handle on one side. Here is a video. If I move the pistol more toward the 3* area, it stands off from my side big-time. This way it is kindof in the hollow of my glute unless I lean forward, then it is painfully obvious. I can't move around like a Zombie like I did in my vid ALL the time, at some points I will lean, etc as you see. http://tinypic.com/r/2wdx7nn/7 Maybe an ankle-holster is the way? Maybe a 6* position in the small of my back? Should I just starch the piss out of my shirts and dress in dress-shirts? All I know is like that, I am going to get a tap on the shoulder from my friendly neighborhood LE before I even get from my appartment to the car. |

Well for one, your not wearing the type of clothing you should be. There are a lot of threads about this sort of thing
No one is going to try to conceal a firearm under only an undershirt. Maybe, try to get a shirt a size bigger, or spend some extra money on a better holster. From the way your body style is, it would benefit you to get a holster that is adjustable for ride weight and cant. Also, try positioning the holster behind your hip bone. You have a muscular build, once you get a shirt a tad bigger, it will drape over your pistol better. |
|
Wow I can see what you're talking about. Maybe some other members can chime in here, but do you think changing over to a leather/kydex hybrid holster would help? Could the kydex be too stiff and doesn't allow the gun to tilt in towards your body? You could try moving the gun further back to a 5 o'clock position, but it will print like crazy if you bend at the waist like that.

I'm going to bed and will approach this issue and my wardrobe after work tomorrow. I'm tired and it's frustrating. The Bladetech is cant adjustable. What is ride-weight adjustable? |

The gun won't bend in the middle, the kydex fits the gun like a glove. Holster came with the weapon. Money isn't an issue, what holster should I buy if not this one? What makes the one you are going to suggest better? |

Have you tried a different holster? M-Tac or Cross Breed? I have not. This is the only holster I have. I got it with the pistol. I am not wanting to buy a dozen of them for a test spin. So far, the MTAC is looking the most appealing. The Crossbreed takes a month to make. The MTAC is 3 days. I think the offset clips may hold it closer to me, vs. the Bladetech that places the bands right behind the pistol. Thoughts? Experiences? |

I think the offset clips may hold it closer to me, vs. the Bladetech that places the bands right behind the pistol. Sadly, you may have to. I have owned many holsters over the years (still got many in a "box-o-leather," like many here have.) For my Glock 19 and/or 22 I eventually settled on an OWB Bianchi 82, or an IWB Bianchi of unknown model I bought in '95 or so––-soft suede with thumb snap. I recently found the Crossbreed Supertuck and fell in love with it, and ditched the others. I really suggest you give it a try, and if it doesn't suit you, try the MTAC which so many others suggest. Just realise that you may have to buy more than you want to get the right fit for you. On a side note––-it really is going to be more noticeable to you than to others. When I first got my Supertuck, I put it on and tucked a shirt in around it, and could clearly see the bulge––and modelling it for the missus, she could clearly see it. Of course, we both knew what we were looking at, and the thing is so comfortable that I started wearing it anyway, figuring that A) I normally wear another cover garment anyway, and B) being a police officer it was not such a big deal to have it spotted. The first few times I had to dress up for court in a shirt and tie while wearing it were eye-opening, to say the least. Why, you ask? Because in the office before and after court I take off the jacket, and stand there in shirt and tie and trousers, with a Glock 22 on my hip with the shirt tucked in around it.....and I was getting crap from my co-workers for being unarmed. It still happens, and to make the point clearer, a few days ago two fellow officers, both seasoned veterans, were talking about holsters near my desk and asked me what I use. I told them "Crossbreed Supertuck," and they asked to see it. I took off my outer shirt (a button up I wear un-buttoned,) and showed them my right hip, where there was a Glock 22 under a tucked in black tee shirt over blue jeans. They both stared at my hip, then at me, and said almost in unison "where is it?" The lesson being, I suppose, that people see what they expect to see, by and large. Sorry, got too long-winded with my stumping for CB there. |

What kind of belt are you using?
If you posted and I missed it sorry. But from your video it appears rather floppy. Concealed carry without a real gunbelt sucks. A good stiff gun belt cinches the gun really tight into your body. A crappy walmart one is too floppy and will allow the butt/grip of the gun to flop out from your body. If you aren't using a gunbelt, get one. Also, how big are your pants? Are you trying to stuff a gun into the same size pants you normally wear? If so, stop it. Get a pair that's at least an inch or two bigger. The extra room makes everything work much better, especially in combination with a real gunbelt. Good luck. |
|
I am tall and skinny as well, and have found that I can conceal guns that are the same (tall and skinny: ie 1911) much better than my Glocks. However, since I am not a fan of the 1911 as a CCW, I had to break down and buy a CrossBreed and think a little more about the way I dress.
For me the CrossBreed isn't actually all that comfy, but it kind of blends the gun into your back, a good thing if you're gonna carry a compact as opposed to a sub. It conceals a G19 95% as well as it does my G26 |

I have MTAC and it does hide the weapon very well. but as stated above you need to change your shirt. get a size bigger. that undershirt is so thin it is gona lay on top af anything and conform to it. I think a size larger shirt will do the trick. but either way no one will notice that as long as you dont let the shirt get cought on top of the gun, most wont even notice then. I was in wallly world one time getting something off the bottom self and when I stood up the butt of my 1911 was hanging out. no one paid any attention. its all in your head my friend. |

The holster may be the problem. What works for someone else may not work for you, so it's kind of trial and error.
I'm 5'6" 125 pounds, and I generally carry a Glock 26 in a Comp-tac Ctac, or an M&P9c in a Crossbreed Supertuck (under a medium-sized t-shirt or polo) with no problem. Also, I wear pants an inch larger in the waist for IWB carry (29 instead of 28), and wear a Wilderness Instructor 5 stitch belt. The Ctac conceals better for me than the Supertuck, because I'm so slim in the waist that the horsehide of the Supertuck can't conform around me, so it just bends at the edges of the kydex and doesn't sit as tight against me as it should. The Ctac is a little less comfortable, obviously, but I barely notice. Good luck! All you can do is get suggestions and try things until you find what works for you. |

Some good advice posted in this thread. There is also the mentality you must get used to. I worried a lot when I first started CCW that people would know I was carrying a firearm. As time has passed, I have come to realize that most people are oblivious to almost everything around them. If they do see it printing, a lot of them will assume it is a cellphone or some similar device that most everyone "has" to have now. The few people that know what it is (if it prints) are going to probably be fellow concealed carriers or LEO.
That said, it is your job to find the combination that will show the least, and that is where the advice given in this thread will come in handy for you. Good belt + Good holster and you'll see a lot of difference. Good luck to you :) -Althor |

I'm 6'1", 180 and I personally thought that the 19 was too much for me to comfortably conceal. That's why I chose the 26. I shoot it almost as well as my full size guns. I carry it in a horse hide CrossBreed SuperTuck at 3 o'clock with a regular old belt. It took a few days to get it to conform to me and really get comfy, but I have used it every day, for about 15 or 16 hours a day, since I got it two months ago. It's very comfy, and with this style setup, I would bet I could conceal a larger pistol. I usually only wear t-shirts and polos and conceal it well this way.
Ya gotta understand when you dress light like this you WILL print.... most people will never know though. People are oblivious. |
|
Your T shirt is too small and too light in color, you need to go up a size as well as go darker.
People new to Concealed carry are ALWAYS way too self conscious of the fact they're carrying and think everyone is going to see it and know. In reality nobody notices. |
|
Just saw the video––-you certainly need a bigger t-shirt, and darker is not a bad idea. It doesn't have to be black––I wear plenty of green, light blue, dark blue, grey, etc.

As I mentioned in your other thread, I found the BT uncomfortable after a while. BT will probably let you return it if you haven’t have it long. The only position that was relatively comfortable was about 4:30or so if I was standing. Sitting down, forget about it. The pointed sweat guard was a no thanks item as well.
Back to concealment. Since that holster has no real adjustment for cant or ride height, like the MTAC/CTAC/Supertuck, you need to move the holster further back on your belt. You also need to wear larger, darker shirts. The gun isn’t going to conceal itself. If you want to switch to a mouse gun go for it. As for me, I’d rather carry a gun I can fight with not just make some noise. |

Wilderness 5-stitch on-order. Normal pant-size 32. Wearing 34. Going to go to Wal-Mart and buy larger shirts. I need new shirts anyway, and Wal-Mart stuff should conform to my body like a burlap sack and only cost $10-20. They are carrying some decent-looking stuff now, just not fitted. The undershirt was just a worst-case that showed what was bugging me most. Also going to order an MTAC tomorrow. I want to call and speak with them is why the delay for not doing it today. I prefer darker clothing, it's just my white undershirt was what I was wearing at work today under scrubs and when I got home, I was pretty worn out and just didn't want to rummage through half a dozen shirts. The one black button-down I tried is a bit small for me (was gifted somewhere, sometime, I don't remember when). Thanks again all. |
|
The gun is too high above your waist band and your waist band is sagging on your hip.
|
|
Done messing with this. Ordered MTAC and hope to be done with this mix/match when my Wilderness 5-stitch comes in.
Looked at my current Blade-tech. It appears the "loops" are half of what is printing. I lowered how it sits by adjusting them as the above suggested and it works a lot better. I think the MTAC will dissappear under a larger, darker button-up.Edited...VA-gunnut |

I think you'll like the Mtac. I Couldn't decide between the mtac and the supertuck, but the supertuck offered a two week free trial so Crossbreed got my $$. I like the supertuck a lot. I'm 6'0 and about 185. I carry the Glock 19 around 3:30 with a looser fitting shirt and it really disappears. I still want a 26 for those days when only a tshirt will do. Like others have said a decent belt and good holster makes all the difference.

I went with them over CB because I don't want to wait a month to get it, and if it doesn't work, I am sure I can sell it for 90% of what I paid if I just point people to this thread and tell them the truth that I only wore it for 30 minutes. |

Kholster is another option similar to the MTAC or Cross Breed. They also offer a 90 day return policy if you aren't happy with it.

Bizarro-
No offense meant but you could wear even more form fitting clothes if you started carrying an LCP or P3AT with a belt clip or an a NAA .22. My wardrobe does not choose my carry gun. Carrying a gun every day is a lifestyle change. Can't afford to buy a whole new wardrobe? For what you spend on a pair of beat up skinny jeans you could buy a few shirts. I'm not saying you need to wear night gowns or even shirts that look too big on you but if you want to carry a fighting handgun you'll have to accomodate the gun. When I was in college a buddy of mine who was probably about your size was a walking Abercrombie ad. He carried a P3AT because "that was all that he could conceal." Dressing the way he did, he was pretty much right. I don't dress that way so it's not an issue for me. Sure, there are times when carrying a G19 under a tighter fitting t-shirt isn't easy, but it's part of it. No different than brushing my teeth in the morning, it's all part of the routine. Wouldn't want to cramp my sense of style by carrying possible life-saving tools. |

I used to attempt to carry a Glock 27 in a Crossbreed Supertuck, considered by many to be one of the best CC holsters out there. Besides being very obvious that I was carrying, it started giving me back problems. So I sold it and bought a Walther PPS and ordered a Crossbreed mini-tuck for it. The PPS is the closest thing you'll ever get to a single-stack Glock; same size as the G26 but half as thick. I firmly believe that I have found the holy grail of carrying for guys who are small and don't like to wear mumu's when they go out with friends. The pictures should provide ample evidence for my contention. My lifestyle hasn't changed much since I've started carrying; the only difference now is I don't get AS freaked out going to Wal-mart at 2am. Is my Walther not a "possible life-saving tool"? I'm able to dress the way I want AND carry a perfectly viable weapon. I don't buy this "either-or" thing. Also, the main reason I traded my 27 in for the Walther was because the 27 was giving me back problems and was very uncomfortable. |

I agree with Bizzarolibe in a sense, I have a friend who carries a pps 9mm. He is also a very small guy. Although, I don't consider the pps to be a "fighting" handgun. I also hate the ergos, and the way the mags were designed. If you ever had to do a speed reload with that thing, expect to be missing a a hunk of flesh from the bottom of your hand.
Basically, what we are saying, if you want to carry a weapon with a lot of rounds, you're going to have to dress around it. There is a big difference in size when you go from 6,7,8+1 to 15+1. |
|
Quoted:Also, the main reason I traded my 27 in for the Walther was because the 27 was giving me back problems and was very uncomfortable.
Not sure I follow you here. Are you saying the weight of the G27 caused you back problems? According to a very quick search on the interwebz, the G27 fully loaded is 26.1oz while the Walther with a mag and no ammo is 21.3 oz. Add ammo to the PPS and the gap gets even smaller. So what was it about the G27 that caused your back problems? |

It is a Bladetech IWB. I am 5'10 and 175. This thing sticks out like a sore thumb. I might as well open-carry. Rediculous. Maybe it's just because I know I am carrying? Maybe other people won't notice a massive buldge and my shirt riding up? Kinda like having a hardon while standing in front of the class and being the only one worried about it because noone else is paying attention to your nethers? If you are new to concealed carry, yes...you are probably paranoid and your clothes probably aren't properly selected for concealed carry. That being said, if you are a skinny dude (and it sounds like you are) then you probably aren't all that thick...in other words, if you stand sideways to me you probably don't have a whole lot of width from the side and if your weapon is positioned behind the crest of your hip then it's possible for the butt of the gun to stick out when you move or reach, etc. Probably the best location for you to carry is in the appendix position...but I wouldn't advise doing that with a Glock. EDIT –– Just saw the video. The advice about buying bigger shirts is dead on...as is the selection of a different holster. I'll also put it out there that appendix carry would probably work very well for you...but, again, I wouldn't recommend doing it with a Glock. |

Some don't like it, but SOB carry works well for me at around 5oclock.
I used a Crossbreed Quick-Clip with my G29 (About the same size, a bit thicker than a G19). It puts it at about a 45deg cant. I'm 6'3", 185lb, no padding here either... It'll hide under a loose t-shirt, just bend at the knees instead of the waist. Just don't wear your skin-tight jeans, and you'll be fine. ETA: Like you said, you're worried about it because you know you have a gun, but the majority of the public would be oblivious even if you were open-carrying... |

I believe AIWB would work well for you, even with a Glock. I AIWB a G30 daily. I am 6' 175 lbs and wear 34in pants. I posted what is below in another thread on AIWB. Simply try it and decide for yourself. And for those of you worried about the ND to your man-parts (I was, so I did what follows), make sure the pistol is unloaded, then check it again. Now rack the slide and check it again. Once you are sure it is unloaded, try to make it go "bang" (really click, since you are sure it is unloaded) while doing your normal re-holster routine. Try inserting the tail of your shirt and push it all in your holster. Try leaving your finger inside the trigger guard and holster the gun as you normally would. Did it go click? How comfortable are you with what it takes to make it go click? Your results may vary, but I damaged a shirt and bruised my finger and it took a lot to get it to go click. I am not saying an ND at re-holster can't happen because I know it can. It is just not as often or as easy as folks portray here. Also note, your results will vary with the firearm and holster combination. Like most things, AIWB is a choice and works for some, and not for others. |

Basically, what we are saying, if you want to carry a weapon with a lot of rounds, you're going to have to dress around it. There is a big difference in size when you go from 6,7,8+1 to 15+1. Well stated. I retyped my post about 3 times to try and not come off as an asshole and still get my point across. Yes, it is easier to carry my 642 than one of my Glocks but it’s a sacrifice. The OP has chosen to carry a G19, just like I did when I started carrying. His options are 1) find a holster, carry position and clothing that work with his carry rig or 2) carry a smaller gun. The white t-shirt the OP was wearing fit about like the undershirts I wear. Definitely harder to do in skinny jeans so if the person doesn’t want to make changes to their wardrobe then changing the gun is the solution I guess. BTW trust me, not everyone in 2010 is wearing skinny jeans and boy’s sized t-shirts. That’s the reason I had to buy a 2XL polo the other day when I usually wear a L. But then again, I’m buying “mumus” apparently. In the summer, especially when it gets balls hot, I don’t want to wear a button-up shirt a lot of the time and prefer to wear more fitted t-shirts. That’s when a good holster like the MTAC comes in and the carry position has to move back more toward 5:00. Again, it’s a sacrifice. I’d rather wear my gun strong side right at 3:00 but there’s the wardrobe conflict again. I’m not saying you have to change the way you dress completely or go out and buy a whole new wardrobe (I hate spending money on clothes, shudder) but just balance it out. When I took my CCW class several years ago, you’d have thought I had invented the light bulb when the instructor asked what I planned to carry and I said a G19. But I was there in jeans and a hoodie which I wear most of the winter so any handgun in a good holster with a reload, light and a fixed blade knife will work under that. OP, you won’t have any trouble selling the BT if you want to unload it. I have a feeling you will like the MTAC. It’s a whole new animal and you get to adjust it to how it works for YOU. Oh and Comp-Tac has a 30 day return policy if you don't like it. We all have our little opinions and sometimes they turn in to pissing matches but for we all share a common bond: carrying and taking responsibility for our own safety. Even if some of us do wear skinny jeans and some of us dress like lesbian lumberjacks. |

A lot of your concern is probably unfounded when it comes to worrying if you are well enough concealed. The overwhelming majority of people will not notice. I have only ever had a couple folks notice my pistol over the years I hve been carrying and both of those times I was open carrying.
Never one sideways glance while CCing and I really don't trying very hard to conceal. I wear mid-sized or full-sized pistols (1911 or G17) in Black Hawk Serpa holsters with just my t shirt hanging over the pistol. Still no one notices. I cannot universally advise this method of carry since laws about printing vary from state to state. It is not an issue here in Kentucky. If I travel to somewhere that this is a concern I have other carry options that conceal more deeply (subcompact 1911, G26, and J-frame S&W) with inside the waistband holsters for the first 2 and a pocket holster for the S&W. If have to go with one of the smaller pistols I always back it up with the S&W. |

No, it was the thickness. I messed around with lots of different holsters and settled on a Crossbreed, but the result was the same. |

But then again, I’m buying “mumus” apparently. I didn't think you were trying to be snarky. I just disagreed with you on a couple of minor points. And no, not everyone wears skinny jeans and tight t-shirts in 2010, but depending on where you live and your age/social demographic, that style can be the norm. I'm not saying I dress that way because I'm trying to conform; I just happen to like the style. But I think it's definitely fair to say that skinny jeans are more popular now than 10 years ago. In any case, if sacrificing round count is a bad idea, why not buy even BIGGER shirts/pants and start carrying around a full-size XDM, or maybe Glock 17? What I'm getting at is that we ALL make some sacrifice concerning the capability of our carry guns in order to dress/live the way we want to. I think just how much you should sacrifice depends on the minimum amount of "gun" that you feel safe carrying. I feel just as capable with 8 rounds of 9mm (my PPS) as I did with 10 rounds of .40 (my 27) so, lucky for me, my wardrobe stays the same. |

Once you’ve made the jump to finding what works for a G19 sized gun, a G17 or XDm (albeit the grip is hideously long on this gun) really isn’t a change. At that point, at least for me, concealment becomes a matter of comfort. Instead of those extra 2 or 4 rounds I prefer the smaller gun. Kind of fickle, huh? Now my preference for smaller guns stops at about the 10+1 mark. |

I'm a button-up kind of guy. I was just taking the vid with my cell-phone and needed a shirt that would show what I was seeing with my EYES. So I used the T-shirt. I hope I like the MTAC. I went with them over CB because I don't want to wait a month to get it, and if it doesn't work, I am sure I can sell it for 90% of what I paid if I just point people to this thread and tell them the truth that I only wore it for 30 minutes. I was in your shoes when I started carrying. I tried a G19 in a Milt Sparks summer special and it printed like crazy. The thickness of the holster and loops added bulk, and the crappy belt caused it to sag off the body. Now I carry with an MTAC Spartan at about 3:30(it may be a hair slimmer in the leather area?) and a Galco reinforced instructors belt. I do drop the holster deeper below my belt line than most. It's adjusted the lowest it can go. I can easily carry with even the slimest fit shirts. Don't believe all the guys that only advocate dressing like a slob. With the right holster/belt combo/sweet spot, you should be able to dress like a big boy. Also, to reiterate what some have said; You're new to this and are probably a little paranoid about printing. In about a month, you'll realize that Joe Public is pretty unobservant. You may look to see if others are carrying, but those that don't carry usually wear blinders. |

Well, as stated, I have bought an MTAC, and a Wilderness 5-stitch.
I don't mind changing my wardrobe. I am a 24yo guy who lives in a town that you couldn't pay me to date in. I could give a damn about style and most of the nice shirts I have newer than 3-4 years were given to me as my other guy friends "evolved" with the style of the day. If I need to go spend $100-$200 on some decent button-ups, that's fine by me. I needed inspiration and this might as well be it. I don't care much for name-brands or form fitting. As far as impressing anyone, they can see my forearms/trap outline no-matter what I wear if it's short sleeve and get an idea that I like to hit the weights every now and then and aren't toting a spare tractor tire. No need for them to see my abs through the shirt, too. If fitted is your style, knock yourself out, I'm not going to judge you. DO your own thing. However, loose is fine with me. I just need to pony up and buy some new clothes. I think I might do that tonight. |
