I would like to get a CC license and am looking for a good quality pistol. I am not a big guy so I would like a single stack DA SA compact 3.5 barrel or so. My 1911 is nice but to large to carry. I perfer a 45 but may go 9 If I have to. I have been shooting a 45 for about 10 years and I belive I could handle a compact 45. I really dont want to carry in condition 1 so a DA would be nice. WE are a little lean on good shops so selection here is small. I know compacts dont hold many rounds but that is not a issue for me. Any suggestions would be apreciated.

From the description of what you are looking for, it sounds like the Para Ordnance line of pistols would fit the bill.

My EDC is an older model Para Ordnance C7.45 LDA. They don't make my exact pistol anymore. This is the list of Para Ordnance pistols. Check out the "7+1" link. The newer version of what I carry is called the Companion Carry Ops:

www.paraord.com/product/search.html

Mine has a full beavertail grip safety, flat hammer, and a set of beautiful diamond checkered walnut grips. Mine does not have the grooves in the frontstrap or the wide serrations on the slide.

You might want to check out the GunsAmerica wesite. They have a pretty good list of Para's for sale.

ETA:

www.weareguns.com/polda.html

Mine is the one pictured on the top right hand side of this webpage. It came with the "Commander" style hammer, but I had it replaced by the factory with the flat hammer.

If you don't have to have a .45 ACP I would recommend the Kahr PM9 or PM40. Very concealable on any body frame and a decent DAO trigger. If you want a .45, I carried a Kimber ultra carry for several years until I bought the Kahr. With both selections, you will need to choose ammo that performs well at the lower velocities caused by the shorter barrel. Right now, the "SB" short barrel gold dots, the CorBon DPX and the Magtech First Defense seem to be some of the best performers is short .45s or 9mm. Hope this is helpful.

Kahr website has been dead all day but from what I can read on the web it sounds like what I am looking for.

+2 from another G19 devotee. It is the best CCW made and the only gun I carry.

I have been carrying it for years and some recent defensive shooting situations I have read about have reinforced my belief in carrying a weapon with a large magazine capacity. I carry 16 rounds in the gun and a 19 round back up mag. I also keep 2 more 17 round mags and a 33 rounder in the car.

not only is it one of the best CCW guns made, but probalby the best all-purpose handgun in existance. Small enought to carry concealed, big enough for a service piece. holds lots of ammo, rails for a light. Runs on whatever shit you feed it (wolf for me) without cleaning for thousands of rounds.

+1 on Para

I carry a Carry12. I love the LDA trigger, it fits me very well, it is accurate and I like the all stainless construction.

Good Luck.

Only thing I don't like about a Glock is they are too wide. A Kahr, Kel-tec or thiner 1911 type works better for me. I have several guns I use including a Kel-tec P32 and S&W 39xx. When it is 90 and 70 degree dew point out you won't want a cover garment so get a pocket gun like a Kel-tec or J-frame. Just my 2 cents... :)

Glock 19 Overall Width: 1.18 in.

1911 Overall Width: 1.37 in. (can be slimmed to 1.1825 with ultra slim 5/32" grips)

There goes that theory.

I thought the 30s grip would be to short for my taste but found out you can get the finger grip thing that goes on the bottom of the mag.

My favorite cc is a S&W airlite chief's special .38+p with RBCD ammo.

tugboat, i seriously suggest you reexamine your usage of RBCD ammunition.

Have you looked at the Sig 245?? It is a .45, DA SA and looks fairly compact.
