I've read a number of articles describing the single stack, XDs.

At least one mentioned that the trigger design is "DAO" (double action only).

Is this the case, or is the trigger/striker function essentially the same as the XD series.

Thanks!

It's not double action. Double action is like a revolver. It's more like a glock than the xd series. The xd series the striker is fully cocked when the slide goes back after a fired round. On the XDs and Glock pistols it's partially cocked by
the slide and then when the trigger is pulled it moves the striker on fully to the rear and than releases it.

COUNTRYGUNNER,

I appreciate your response!  Just what I needed to know.  Thanks!!!!

I suspected that the trigger design wasn't a true DAO, but the articles were lacking in details, and at least in one case, misleading.

Now that I know what the deal is - a trip to the LGS is in order.  I strongly suspect that I'll have to put my name on a waiting list, but I'm in no hurry.

Thanks again.

Grumpy

I will say that the trigger on the XDS is noticeably different than that on my XD or XDM. It seems about the same weight in total but the first stage is lighter and the break is much crisper. It reminds me an awful lot of a pea-shooter pistol I had as a kid, same kind of pull-pull-pull-SNAP. Lots more happens after that with the XDS than with the plastic pea shooter, though.

Does the XDS use the same single action striker as the XDM?

No the XDS is based off the Glock and acts exactly just like a Glock.

I like the trigger on the XDs better than the XDm, not sure the reason, but the XDm needs a trigger job IMO. the xds out of the box is a great shooting gun in my experience. i can't say how it works, just how it performs.

Does it have the same safety factor in in the half cock setting?  Meaning that if the sear failed (and the firing pin block) the striker would not impact the primer with enough force to fire?

Edit:  Not to hijack but this is why I was sold on the Glock over the M&P line.  I loved my 9c but I never felt comfortable with one in the chamber.  Yes, I know of the firing pin block but I personally liked the extra margin of safety.
