Hey Guys,

My wife is wanting a 1911 just to shoot at the range. So I started looking around and we came across the GI model in a 4" barrel. Can you guys give me some intel on these pistols? Im not really a 1911 guy but might be after shooting hers. Kinda of funny how it all started cause we went and looked at Kimbers and she like the looks and feel of the GI model. Im not a fan of the Kimber look myself but Ive always heard there the bees knee in a 1911. Feel free to get me up to speed on the GI and any handy info on the 1911 platform.

Thanks Guys!

I have two Springfield GIs... A 1911A1 full size, and a 4 inch.
I absolutely LOVE both of them.

I had one for a little while and while it was reliable, I hated the bull barrel.

I'd recommend the 5" in a heartbeat though. Softer shooting and easier to field strip. Heck, I actualy carry one.

I've got a 5" GI 1911A1 also that I carry. Love it to death and would recommend it in a heartbeat. Haven't tried a 4" barrel but I'm sure it can't be any rougher then the 5in which is pretty forgiving
