I've been nosing around the web and found Sigs new 45 Combat.  Has anyone actually held this gun?  Impressions?  I've googled reviews for it and came up empty.  Just curious as it looks like something that is bad to the bone.

Edited to add picture.

My brother purchased one earlier this year to replace his P220ST as his duty gun.  This would be his 5th P220 variant.  He seemed very excited when it arrived.  The OD frame is actually very nice.  I was impressed with how the color came out!  The internals are either Phosphated or Nickel'd for corrosion resistance.  The trigger pull felt as good as any other SIG that I'd felt.  I don't recall if the trigger was flat or serrated.  The front strap has vertical checkering (for lack of a better word, it's not really checkered).  I really liked that the un-checkered vertical checkering ; it really felt good in my hands.

The thing that I didn't really care for is that the rail is a true M1913 rail.  All other SIG rails are not quite standard M1913 rails.  My brother had a difficult time fitting his rail-mounted light on it.  In the end, the metal light brackets may have scratched the finish on the dustcover.  I don't know how the M1913 rails would fit in a standard holster.  His duty holster holds the pistol with light attached to it.  I don't know if a standard M1913 rail will provide any benefits over the current SIG rail.

While I haven't gotten a chance to put some rounds through it, he has given me a range report.  In the 300 rounds that he put through it, he didn't have any failures.  The pistol shot dead-on.  It showed as much quality as any of the other SIGs that he owns.

Is it worth it?  It really depends.  I don't think that I would have spent the extra money on it.  I just don't view the upgrades as value-added.  They're nice.  They may (or may not) have some performance enchancing properties.  I just feel that it is a marketing ploy by Sigarms.  Any enhancements were aesthetic or feel-good.  The P220Combat is definately a cool pistol, I just don't think it is a step-up from the standard P220.  Don't get me wrong, I'd love to own one.  I just don't feel it is worth the additional money.

Good luck with your search!

I think the Sig web site shows the pistol with a flashlight/laser combo installed.  I'm at work right now and don't have time to look.  Either way, the light/laser combo probly runs another $400.

It's not OD; it's FDE.

From what I/we can tell, the SiG P220 "Combat" was developed for the CP/JCP trials USSOCOM was planning on (I think the programs are on indefinite hold now). One (possible) competitor would have been the HK45. I'm sure SiG decided to just start selling the pistols, what with the current market for "tacticool" pistols and whatnot.

Yes.  Please tell us.

I really like mine.  Is it worth the extra money???  I bought mine used (if that's what you want to call it) and got a good deal on it, so to me it was worth it.  I also wanted the TB, so this was my best option.  Though this is my first P220, I believe it feels the same as the standard P220 - which of course is nearly perfect.  I was just looking for something a little different.

Man, your chasing me with your P220 Combat TB...

It was worth the extra money to me simply because when I was looking at the gun display at the gun store it took me over 5 minutes to realize it was right next to a P220R.  The Combat caught my eye, and I just had to have it.  After shooting a few boxes of ammo through it, I am glad I picked it up.  Simply the finest .45 I've ever shot just out of the box.  When I took my 1911 and my 220 combat out to the range, I wound up only shooting 14 rounds out of the 1911.  I can control the 220 better than my 1911, even though I never thought I had a problem controlling it before.  I will alway love the 1911, but it doesn't sleep on my nightstand anymore, my Sig does...

I love the P220 Combat and am planning on getting on eventually. It is IMO one of the sweetest looking guns on the market (especially with the addition of black hogue grips) and from what I have read and heard from owners an absloutely amazing shooter.

Yes, they are great shooters.  I latched onto one of the first ones we got in.  It was the threaded bbl version and I was using an AAC EVO-45 can on it.  It is a great looking and excellent shooting pistol.

I took a customer out to demo the suppressor and he "had" to have the complete setup so I sold it.....now, I'm waiting to get another one in.
