Have money to burn and a .45 to add to my collection. I already have a Sig P226 9mm so you would think a P220 would make sense yet I long for a 1911 like the one mentioned above.

So which is it??

Step forward and be heard.

The MOA for the Sig would be familar and the 220 is perhaps the most accurate and reliable 45acp Semi-automatic out of the box. You certainly couldn't do wrong with it.

The 1911's though have some really nice features. I happen to enjoy C&L and I find that the 1911's are generally thin enough to conceal easily.

So I guess one of each is out of the question?

1911. As good as Sigs are, every single one of them looks just like the other ones. At least your 1911 can be changed as you see fit.

I owned a SA 1911, and it was the worst piece of junk I ever owned. It was terrible. Some people have really good SA 1911's, and some people have awful ones.

I have never seen or heard of a bad P220, however. I have owned/shot several examples of Sig's products, and have not seen a bad one yet. They are superb weapons.

Yes your gun might look like someone elses, (horror of horrors) but at least you will have a reliable powerful handgun that is very effective at keeping bad guys from hurting you.

If you want a 1911, it is best to go with a high level Kimber or a custom 1911 like my Les Baer.

That did it, Sig P220, come to Daddy, yippeee.
I too never hear of a P220 failing of any kind. To bad that SA makes hit and miss products.
What would really be cool is if Sig made a 5 inch P220 instead of a 4.4 inch.....
Thanks Guys.

I had a Mil-Spec SA with the front sight put in off center. It shot 4 inches left at 25 feet. I read that this was a common prob on 1911forum. The fix is pretty much that a new hole has to be drilled or something...

I have a Kimber TLE II (LAPD SWAT) now with a little over 600 rounds through it. I love it, no problems.

I have also been wanting a p220st very badly. I have wanted another SIG ever since I got my p239 last Christmas. What holds me back is that I like to have a lot of magazines for my guns. The mag prices on 220 mags are very expensive in comparison to 1911 mags. The magazine issue always makes me hesitate away from the 220.

Get a 1911.

Specificly a Kimber Pro Tac or Pro Carry. You won't be sorry.

Then allow me to be the first. I had a P-220 in .45acp that would hardly hit water if it fell out of a boat. It had the same lackluster accuracy regardless of ammo or shooter.

I sold it after I bought my H&K.

If it is between the Mil-Spec and the Sig, then I'd take the Sig hands down. Don't worry too much about mag cost. You can get Sig mags just as cheap as Wilson Combat 1911 mags...and anyone in the 1911 world will tell you that the Wilson's are by far the best 1911 mags. So if you get a 1911, you'll still be paying $25 per mag to get the good ones.

I think you would have to step up to something like the TRP to be in the same league as the Sig in terms of accuracy, fit and out of the box reliability. But the TRP's are more expensive.

But if you really have "money to burn", then I would suggest getting a Sig P220 and a 1911....preferably a new Kimber TLE II which is basically the LAPD SWAT standard sidearm. The Sig P220ST is probably one of the most beautiful guns I ever saw and when I save up a bit more I will have one to keep my W. German marked Sig-Sauer P220 company!

Couldn't you had drifted the rear sight?

Not to mention SA would have gladly replaced your slide if the front sight was indeed off-center.
