Let me start out by saying that I really really like guns.  I am pretty picky about what I like.  But having said that I don't bash guns that I am not interested in.  Yesterday at the local gun shop/range, I stopped in to give some of my non rimfire toys some range time.  Long story short I bought a slightly used Sig Mosquito.  It still had the showroom shine on it plus oil and a little dirt.  The guy behind counter said the woman who owned only put about 200 rnds through it.  I told him I would take it, so he gave it a free ultrasonic cleaning and oiling and I was on my way with my new Sig.  I was really exited since I had always wanted a Sig.  Anyway I started to do some research and my heart sank.  I read article after article of problems with the Mosquito.  I searched far and wide, but all the results were pretty consistant.  The Mosquito is pretty picky when it comes to AMMO.  Most owners of the Mosquito recommened CCI Mini Mags. So with that advice in hand, this morning I proceed to Wally World and buy two bricks ot Mini Mags to shoot in my new toy.  I take my new ammo, pistol and my old bolt action varmit gun and head the the range.  I start my range session with the varmit gun.  I shoot the mini mags, the Federal Value Pack (FVP), and Remington High Velocity Target( RHVT) ammo all with out one Failure to Fire (FTF).  Feeling good I load up the Sigs Mags with the Federal and fire 5 shots off with no problem.  I load the next mag with the same and nothing that is the first FTF.  I cock the hammer and pull the trigger and nothing, so I cycle the slide and eject that round and repeat.  Trying this ends up the same another FTF. Onece again I cock the hammer and pull the trigger, this time it fires but it Fails to Extract (FTE). This goes on with all the other ammo Mini Mags, and Remington .  So I go get the salesman who sold me the gun.  He immediately blames it on the ammo. He told me that all ammo from Wally World is factory seconds.  He goes and gets CCI Velocitors, in which I load up and immediately have a FTF.  I give him the gun, he cycles it through and gets some rounds to fire but over all its pretty frustrating!  Anyway he gives me the opition to send it to SIG or trade it for another gun. After reading about all the other broken Mosquitos and the percieved poor service at SIG. I decided to trade it for a Ruger Mk III 22/45.   I took the Ruger straight to the firing line loaded up my "factory seconds" and proceeded to put holes in paper with out any FTF's or FTE's.  The Gun worked as it should even with the wally world stuff. To give a SHOUT OUT. I am very happy with my overall expirence with SHOOTERS CHOICE in CHESWOLD, DE. The have a great range, and good selection of both new and used firearms.  Travis who works the store is a standup guy, and he gave me some really outstanding customer service today. As a matter of fact the entire staff of SHOOTERS CHOICE gets an A+ in my book.
In closing, I am sure that SIG makes some high quality , and reliable firearms.  Unfortunally the Mosquito isn't one of them. Shooting 22lr is supposed to fun and cheap.  If you have to constantly wonder is the next round going go off, well that isn't fun.  If you have buy Super High Velocity Premium Ammo to make the gun go bang, well that isn't cheap.  With that being said there just isn't any value in owning the Mosquito.  So IMHO if you are looking for a 22lr pistol , I would suggest looking elsewhere.

I look forward to your stories, your comments, and your opinions.

I love my Sig pistols, a 226, 229SAS, and a 239, but I would never own a 'skeeter. Heard this kind of thing quite often about them.

Very disappointing isn't it?  Any rimfire can be occasionally picky about ammo, especially when it's getting dirty but that just isn't acceptable.  Hopefully, the shop/range gave you full credit for the return of the sig, sounds like they did though.

Now welcome to the world of Ruger where all your needs can be met and upgrades are available in untold numbers to turn an accurate shooter into an absolute tack driver.  You do need to take the Ruger apart and give it a good cleaning, cause they put all sorts of preservatives inside of it, which can also lead to temporary failures. Happy 4th.

My mosquito was junk as well. I think it could make a really cool looking paper weight though.

I am glad to hear that I wasn't the only one having a problem with the Sig Mosquito.  I am really surprised that a well respected company such as SIG would let a problem like this continue on and on. Having lurked around some of the other gun forums, it seems to me that SIG's overall Quality Assurance and Customer Service has turned on downward trend.  I have come to the conclusion that I will not be purchasing any of Sig Sauers Firearms in the near future.

Read about the mosquito and went with a ruger 22/45 as well.  3000+ rounds of wallys fed value pack and only 2 fte.

i bought and hated the p22 with the long barrel target version.  i would say don't buy that one either.

i do love my 2206 smith and wesson.  a little picky on the ammo but if i don't use the cheapest crap i can find it the pistol always shoots.  i prefer aguilla super maximums.

I must have gotten the Lucky Dog, my Mosquito runs great. They are'nt real accurate but they are fun to shoot. Like the P22, you must have gotten one of the early ones before the bugs were worked out.

My buddy bought a reverse two tone model this morning and we put 50 or so rounds through it today with zero problems.

We were using Mini-Mags

Same here.  I got one of the earlier Mosquitoes and it was a piece of crap.  I put up with it for about a year, and even sent it to a name-brand 'smith for whatever reliability & trigger action work he could do.  Didn't help.

Bottom line: I finally sent the gun back to Sig and got a later-model replacement that worked much, much better.  I'll still get a FTF/FTE once or twice in a box of regular ammo (I use Federal jacketed & Remington subsonic).  No problems at all with CCI mini-mags.

Sig really ruined their "to-hell-and-back-reliability" reputation with the early Mosquito, but the later ones (mine, at least) run pretty good.

FWIW.

I'll jump in.

I picked up a threaded one at the same time I paid for my can.

Fed bulk pack didn't work worth a crap which scared me along with all the negative posts about it, plus it shot pretty high.

I changed the front site and got different ammo. I've got about 1k rounds through it now since I stopped using the fed value pack. Mini-Mags, Rem Subsonic, Fed Auto Match, and 60 grain Aguila SSS. All run flawlessly and hit to point of aim.

I must be lucky when it comes to reliable guns (knock on wood), I've got a Para SSP 1911 that's run flawless for 8k rounds right out of the box also. Oh my Ciener kit has 6 or 7k through it as well...it failed to cock the hammer twice in the second mag I shot through it with fed bulk pack, no issues since.

Only gun I've had that was a real problem was a Lorcin 22 pistol my Dad bought me for 40$ from a pawnshop when I was like 12 because I just had to have one. Sadly enough it actually worked for a good while before it started jamming.

I have heard that said repeatedly by one particular individual who also seems to be a tad on the liberal side at the gun shop.

I have never had an issue with any WWB ammo. I have seen a few online ammo dealers with the WWB 100's for sale, but not lately.

I've probably put 3000 rds through a Beretta that I no longer own and my HK P2000 and my HK P2000 SK have seen about 1000 rd's. I have no recollection of a problem, ever.

So is this "2nd's" the talk of people who like to see your range time as well as ammo bought at the range?

If I were loaded [$$$] I'd buy 200 rds of their stuff each visit. But as it stands, I have found another 1000 rds of WWB from Wally's that was $9.99/100 eighteen months ago and it now sits with my 4000 rds bought at $13.46/100 about six weeks ago. Now, I'm buying reloads when they pop up at Outdoor Marksmen and just got two ammo boxes of .40 S&W for $145 per 1000. I haven't received them yet, but if they are like the .223 reloads I got from them all will be good. At $7.25 a box after doing the math it beats the cheapest at the range and that's $13.99. I begrudge no one making a living [other than lumber tards selling sheets at three times the prices when a hurricane is coming] and I surely don't want the price of ammo to go so high that they close their doors OR have .22 shooters in every booth. But when you start talking a difference of $6 a box for 50 rounds, unless you have money to burn the range shouldn't blame you if you aredently look for deals. Besides, I've bought 4 guns there. I'll still buy one box of 50 rounds when I shoot anyway just like buying a sleeve or two of golf balls at the pro shop when the price is 50% higher than everywhere else so the pro makes a living.

But back to the original post. DOES ANYONE REALLY THINK THE WALLY WORLD WWB OF 100 RD'S IS NOT FIRST RATE AMMO THAT COULD HAVE EASILY HIT A 50 ROUND BOX AT ONE OF THE PREMIER AMMO DEALERS?

Thanks in advance,
WALSH

I bought one of the first factory threaded barrelled models and have no problems to report.  It works as advertised in my experience.  I shoot Rem sub-sonic w/an Outback can.

He told me that all ammo from Wally World is factory seconds
He is an idiot if he really thinks there is even such a thing as a "factory second" when it comes to either ammunition, or firearms. Find another gunshop.

I had the 'fail-to-fire' a chambered round with a Mosquito.  I found that the gun preferred the Sig lube that came with it rather than CLP.  (It told me so itself).

I've never put anything through it but Stingers.  In any case, this problem seemed to occur randomly, but with some frequency.  It was irritating, given what the thing costs, and that I expected better from a Sig.

However, I took it to the range a couple of days ago, prepared to do multiple trigger pulls on the odd rounds, and it didn't happen once through 150 rounds, much to my surprise.

I don't think it was the ammo, as some of the stuff I shot the other day was from the same lot that had problems in the past.

Maybe they just need a 'few' rounds through to loosen things up.  It's plenty accurate, for what it is.

edit:  It's one of the newer green ones.

Factory seconds?!  Everybody knows Wally World only sells factory thirds.

I must be one of the lucky Mosquito owners.  I find it fun to shoot, reliable, and has a nice balance.  My Ruger 22/45 is a little more accurate, but that can be expected with the bull barrel.  Both guns are fed CCI mini mags.

Mine after about 2k is finally starting to be not so finicky. It will feed most ammo i throw in it, but it shoots high. And i mean HIGH. I have changed the sites out and at about 7 yards its about a foot high, 25 yards about 3 feet high, and at 100 yards it shoots over the berm.
