Just checked out the Lenny Magill "Underwater Shooting" dvd today, one of the weapons tested in the dvd was the P229 in .40 S&W.  Flawless function.  Slide made the full travel, every round fired, i was very impressed.  It also seemed to have the best range of all the handguns fired underwater, making contact with the backstop at about 12 feet.  I think this had more to do with the type of ammunition than the weapon itself though.  But as far as function, next time someone says "yeah, well, my glock can shoot underwater!"  you can say SO DO OUR SIGS!

Is that the video of several different guns tested under water? If so which were tested and how did they do? I wanted to buy the video but they want like $50 for it! You want to "rent" it to me by any chance? Thanks!

ya right on man, i hate glocks... i think they deserve to be with some of the kel techs ive shot.... man glocks jam... they dont have a supportive barrel all around it......just crap.....now i bet someone will read this and just flip on meheadim so happy sigs can shoot under waterhathippie.gif

thanks for those smart ass comments, i was simply talking about a video, if you want the other side of it, the glocks that were tested operated flawlessly too...i was simply remarking that it really is no big deal that a weapon functions underwater as you often hear glock snobs boasting about this.  I have nothing against glocks so please, do us all a favor and back off...lets keep this a rational somewhat adult conversation.  Thanks.

Were they firing the Glock without the modified cups, or with?  I'm guessing no mods to the Sig?

Yeah, ill get the details up here soon, i just dont have the list of weapons in front of me.  As far as the cups you speak of, i have no idea what they are.  They fired 3 glocks, 2 had custom aftermarket parts, these 2 weapons failed to cycle and fired only intermitently, most likely due to lighter spring tensions causing the mechanism to not fully cycle, the one unmodified glock functioned without a hitch,  the P229 was completely stock and fired/cycled without flaw, Lenny even double tapped it, this caused a buildup of gas in the barrel between shots, when the second shot went off the increased pressure caused by a gas pocket in an otherwise water filled barrel caused the case head to burst and be thrown out the ejection port.  The gun was undamaged (no Kaboom).  This is something to consider when shooting underwater, you must ensure that the weapon is completely filled with water, so that operating pressures are consistent throughout the weapon.

How deep where the weapons when fired?

I saw the video last year.

All handguns where shot in a pool.  I would say that they were fired at 3 feet below the water.

The modified glocks did not cycle reliablely but the unmodified factory glocks performed fine.  They didn't say what the modifications were  done to the modified glocks.

They let the handgun fill entirely with water before firing.    I believe to keep the pressure from spiking.  


They also shot some revolvers under water too.  

All handguns they fired were not damaged.  Also the bullets lost velocity really really fast.  I would say that they would only be leathal at less than 6 feet.  He was using pumpkins as his test target.

At one point he says, "Maybe will try out an AR-15." They didn't though.

Strangely enough I've never had the need or desire to shoot underwater.  But its good to know that my 228 should work should the need arise.
