Does anybody know the service life (rounds fired) of G17? I know you can replace worn out and broken parts but sooner or later there is a point when the pistol is so worn out it should not be shot anymore.

Yeah there is a point but will you ever get to that point. Guns are machines one day they will wear out, but also depends on what kinda wear. Lots of high rate of fire for 5 years with hardly any cleaning   or   30 years worth of 17L target practice at 1000 rds a month cleaned after every trip to the range. There are Glocks with 150,000 200,000 rounds through them still chugging along. Even rumors of same slide and frame with over 350,000.

You will probably be broke from buying ammo, old and decrepit, or dead before frame or slide is replaced.

If you want a gun that can go half a million rounds on the same frame, get a forged 1911.

That being said, you'd probably longg run out of money for ammo before you could get anywhere near the round count necessary to really test the service life of a glock!

I think a 1911 may have a part break or need replacement before anything in your glock goes out.

Glocks run forever.  I have shot my whole life and never have seen one die yet!

you'll die first

With proper maintenance, should shouldn't have to replace any major components before about 50,000 rounds.  After 50k, pay closer attention to the barrel and slide.  Expect the firearms service life to be around 100,000 rounds.  Replacing parts as necessary, you may get up to and beyond 300,000.

Thats the 9mm glocks, the .40 ones have a significantly shorter life span.

In the latest issue of Gun World, Chuck Taylor indicates that he has put 270,000 full-power rounds through his much "used and abused" Glock 17. (pages 20-29)

For the average shooter, that is in excess of 5 times the lifetime expenditure of ammunition considering that most folks would be doing quite well to put 50,000 rounds through all the guns that they own.

I'll bet that if one were to take really good care of the Glock 17 by way of regular cleaning and lubrication, high quality maintenance, replacing the various springs (all 4 of them) and treating the pistol with due care, it would probably make 400,000 rounds without much difficulty.

I think that if I had enough money for 270K rounds of ammo to fire through a glock 17, I would have a dozen glock 17s to shoot as well

But then you'd need enough money to afford the 3,000,000+ rounds that you could put through them.
