Is there any problem with using a series 80 slide on an series 70 frame?  Shouldn't it work if I just don't use the firing pin block?

It'll work just fine.

+1, but your frame might get mad at your slide....

I did the opposite. I put a 70 series slide on a 80 series frame. I just used a 70 to 80 series shim and got rid of the firing pin block and the actuators. Works fine for me . Be sure that all the functions of the gun work like they should. I mean like the hammer should'nt drop while the grip safety is'nt depressed and so on.
