I have a S&W 686-3 in 357mag. It has a smooth cylinder, not fluted. 6" barrel with adjustable rear sight.  When I purchased this revolver I was told that it was the "Hunter" model and that there are only around 500 in existence.  Anyone know anything about this and possibly a resale value?  All info is appreciated!

S.P.K.,
HERE IS AN EXAMPLE OF THE OF HOW THE GUN MARKET WORKS, THE BLUE BOOK LIST A COLT AR- 15 PRE BAN FOR APPROX. $900.00, YET AT GUNSHOWS THEY WILL PULL IN A MIN OF $1700.00. WHY?  BECAUSE THIS IS WHAT THE MARKET BARES.

SO IN SOME CIRCLES YOUR S&W WILL BE SEEN AS A STANDARD L-FRAME WORTH $300.00 TO A SHOP, YET TO THE COLLECTOR IT MAY BE WORTH 3 TO 4 TIMES THAT AMOUNT, SO IT DEPENDS UPON WHO YOU PRESENT IT TO. EITHER WAY YOU HAVE A VERY NICE PIECE AND SHOULD CONSIDER KEEPING IT , BECAUSE YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO REPLACE IT!
