I am deploying with a SIG 229 DAC pistol, The pistol grip is way to small, not long enough, not wide enough. Does anyone in ARFCOM know a custom grip maker who can make grips for a 229? I am willing to pay a good bit for a set of custom grips.

Vin

And I have searched the web, doesn't seem like anyone is making grips for the 229

Happy New Year

The 229 is too small?    Man, you must have hands like a gorilla.  I feel so......small.

Length of grip will be a tough one to cure.  A slip on rubber or neoprene adaptor, like the Glock Sock, will help with width.

Can't think of much else tho.

Good luck on your deployment.

ANY aftermarket grips will likely be thicker than SIG OEM grips

HOGUE has Wood and Rubber available.

Correct, I'm the one guy who likes the M9 grip. I've got Houage grips on my pistol now but it puts my thumb directly over the mag release.

topgunsupply.com carries something called the X-Grip which goes on the bottom of the longer 226 magazine allowing it to fit flush in a 229.  I have several and they add a little length and bigger bottom lip to the handle of my 229.   It also increase capacity since 226 9mm mags can be had in 17rnd a piece.

If he is being deployed, he smells like of USCG.  That means his P229R-DAK is in .40S&W.  The Freeds X-Grips that TG Supply is selling wont help him, because they are for 9mm.

Houge wood grips are very fat, but I wouldnt pay that for my duty gun.  Get a set of Houge, rubber grip panels, the ones without finger grooves.  In stall them.  Then get a Houge Handall, which is a slip over rubber grip that adds finger grooves.  This combo should make you P229 extra fatty in the grip dept.

As for length, there's only one thing you can do that I know of.  Try and get some SIG Target P229 mag plates.  They added a silver finger groove.  They are expensive as hell though.  You might look to see what Europe has to offer for lengthening your grip.  Europe has all kinds of cool shit for SIGs we cant get here.  Find out what your overseas postal address is, and if you find something, have it sent there to greet you.

You might even tell you boss the problem you're having, maybe they can scrounge up an old M9, and some mags.

I found the Hogue wraparound finger grooved grips on my SIG 229 made it too big for my hands and I normally shoot Glock 20/21 all the time

Depending on how you look at it that could be a good thing...

---- What does USCG smell like My SIG is a 9MM, not .40 cal.
I'll try the grips and the magazine extender and see if they will solve the problem...

Thanks Vin

USCG smells like saltwater.

"Smells like", is in the same class as terms like "sounds like", "looks like", etc.  Dont be so sensitive about it.

If yours is in 9mm, go with the Freeds X-Grip and P226 mags.  It'll add about a half inch, maybe a bit more to the length.  If you do go with that plan, make sure you use the older factory parked mags.  The newer ones have a longer baseplate, and wont fit, so you'll need to do some trimming on the baseplate.  Even then, some of the older parked mags have had the newer baseplates put on them.  If this is the case, Heir Dremel is your friend.
