I'm going "compact" I'm kinda stuck between the SA Ultra compact .45 and the compact Glock money is no object I just want the most reliable and easily concealed inside the pant's .45 available.

If money is no object then look at Les Baer & Wilson. Avoid the Springfield compacts as they have operating problems. Kimber makes good compacts.

Ditto!

Avoid glocks liek the plague. SA isn't too bad, but they have a few flukes out there.

Springfield Mil-spec Micro compact. 100% reliable and VERY accurate. I miss mine and plan to get another.

If it were me, I'd get a Para-Ord LDA compact.
The trigger is sweeter than honey. Very conductive to accurate, well placed shots. Much like a super smooth DA revolver.

Personally, I'd like to wait until their new models have been proven to be a bit more reliable than their double stack brothern before I'd recommend one.

There's a lot of discussion on the internet about the short barreled 1911s being unreliable. Certainly the further you get from the original concept (5" Government Model) the more you compromise reliability. That being said, the Kimber Ultra Carry (a 3" sub compact) seems to have the best reputation for functional reiliability. That has been my wife's experience with the one she carries.

If you are willing to go to a 4" barrel/slide, which in reality isn't any harder to conceal just a little heavier, there are a number of "compact" models that will serve well. The semi customs like Wilson and Les Bear are at the top of the heap here, which is what you pay for.

i bought a SA ultra compact 1911 to replace my kb'd Glock 30.

Close to 700rnds so far with ZERO malfunctions. Accuracy is better and is more comfortable to shoot.

Look at Glock 36. It is a pretty small .45 and readily concealable. Mine has been 100% reliable for over about 500 rounds (maybe more, haven't been counting). Some of the micro 1911s have problems with the design being made that small.

I think the Kimbers have a different recoil spring assembly. The little Kimber ULTRA CDP (I think that's the name, it is the top of the line one that retails for about $ 900) comes with night sights and has the edges beveled down, it is a real beauty. I looked at one of those several times before deciding to get the Glock 36.

On the recommendation of Dave @ Quantico I may be purchasing a loaded ultra compact. I was inquiring about the Kimber ultra carry and he said, "Save about $300 and get the Springfield. It's just about as loaded as the Kimber and as reliable as any other 1911 pistol."

{edited: I won't own a Glock so I can not say for certain, I guess it would depend on the model of each gun...from those that I have seen/held the 1911 LOOKS/FEELS slimmer -- which doesn't mean shit

nope, measure the widest point of each gun. the 1911 is thicker.

Interesting, which point of the 1911 sells it out? The safety would be my guess...

I'm not really familiar with Glocks....for 4 reasons.

1) Buying a new one would support ballistic fingerprinting.
2) I don't like thier ergonomics.
3) They are ugly as sin.
4) 1911's and H&K USP's don't shear off parts at such a high rate.
