I just changed the recoil spring. Wolff 17lbs (wrong spring???) and now the slide won't lock back on some mags. I thought it was the mags so I ran brand new mags today(47d, cmc powermags, cobra mags) and still had issues. any advice??

How many rounds do you have through it? My Pro was very tight up till about 700 rounds and it smoothed out. Take it back apart and reassemble. make sure springs not in backwards. |

The slide may not be cycling completely due to a too strong spring or a grip that is not quite firm enough. Try gripping the gun FIRMLY while firing and, if that doesn't work; try a lighter recoil spring.

he put in a 17lb spring, if I remember correctly the PRO comes from Springfield Armory with an 18 lb spring. |

IIRC the FBI had issues with Wilson mags and the Springer working together in harmony.

My pro works fine with both WC 47d and Tripp kobra mags. |

Original specs for the recoil spring is 16 pounds.
Springfield may use different, but 16lbs is the original specifications for 5" barreled 1911's.

Spoke to Deb at the Custom Shop today. Helpful lady. here is what she told me--the pro models use the Wolff 18.5lbs conventional 1911-a1 recoil spring. I ordered a batch of new springs and will let you guys know if this sorts out my problem. thanks for the replies.

While you are waiting, try the mags you have now. With an empty mag and empty chamber, insert the mag into the gun with slide forward, then pull the slide "smartly" all the way to the rear. Does it lock back? If so, your grip may be the issue...if not, it can be one of several things as mentioned already.
I, too, have heard that some TRPs and Pros do not want to lock back with the Wilson #47D mags. My TRP works perfectly with my standard #47s and the two #47Ds I own, but this is one more reason I will not use 8rd. 1911 mags for serious purposes. (Yes, I KNOW I am a dinosaur, but I can use what I please in my pistols!  )

If that technique doesnt work take your gun and trade it in for a "GEE Twenty-ONE" with the additional money left over you can pay someone to kick you in the ass.
 just a little payback for the glock bashers.
