Anyone hearing the rumors of the XD in .45acp?

I was reading about it on xdtalk.com

This would be a nice offering from SA.  Now if they'd offer conversion barrels to go from .45 to .357sig, etc, etc

I asked them at SHOT show back in Jan, they said there was no plans at that time.

I will ask again in Feb.

Go to davidsons at www.galleryofguns.com do the gun finder and look up Springfield Armory, then click on the 45 AP not GAP and search. You will find a bunch of 1911`s and then the new stock numbers for the 45 automatic pistol XD.

Sweet!  So it may happen?

I would think it would be a long shot.  The reason that the XD is in .45 GAP is that the frame is too small to accommodate .45ACP.  They would need to come out with a new, larger frame for a .45 ACP model.  If they could keep the ergonomics almost identical to the current frame and make a .45 model (or better yet, a 10mm model), that would be pretty frickin' sweet.

I would suspect if we see a .45 a.c.p. model we will also see a 10mm. I believe that 10mm's and 45 a.c.p.'s for the most part share the same frame dimensions.    I will definitley buy another XD if the .45 a.c.p. and/or 10mm come to be.

Would phone calls help?  I was very disappointed when they came out with the GAP.

Most 9/40 series pistols have completely different frames than their 45 brothers.

On a HK USP, you can, in theory, switch out a 40 cal slide and a 9mm slide to do a conversion.

The USP 45 frame is bigger.

You'd have all the same placement of features and such, but the frame would have to be wider and possibly beefed up.

Might would. If enough of the shooting public showed interest by calling, writing letters and sending email they would at least consider it if they aren't already.

I'm sure it would sell, a lot of people want .45 but not a g.a.p. . I understand the concept of the g.a.p. but I personally have no use for it and prefer a.c.p. . Of course getting the Glock guys I know riled up by saying it only exists because gaston wanted his name on a cartridge is fun, which is not completely a tinfoil theory in my opinion.

Oh about the frame size......Davidson`s lists it as the xd L speculation was its the xd "l" as in large frame. The shot show is only a couple months away, thats the first booth I am running to.

Me too, I've been wanting a striker fired .45 acp for a while. Almost bought a G21, glad I didn't. I prefer the ergonomics of the XD over the Glock, feels more like a 1911 to me and I will admit that the grip safety is appealing. Prospects of a .45 acp XD makes them that much better.

I put 250 rounds through my XD this morning at the gun club, tons of fun. Noone was there so I set up 4 targets at different ranges and double tapped away( also nice to do since up until today I was shooting at a local public pay range and there was no double tapping or rapid fires AT ALL)

I thought this was old news. There will NOT be a .45ACP model. As for .45GAP, its been out in the Tactical model for a bit. I got to FF one a couple of weeks ago. Its listed on the SA site as being available in the service model now.

Service Model Page

It would be very cool to see it in a single stack .45ACP however. And its seem like it would be trivial to do. But with the results the .45GAP is showing I'm kinda like SA. What's the point? You can reload the .45GAP with same dies, frames stays a reasonable size and you get more capacity. I thought the .45GAP would be a flash in the pan but its looking more and more like a viable round for the long term. Too many 1911's and others in .45ACP for it to ever die though.

Ok so what is the big deal with 10mm.

To me it just looks like a .40 with a tad more brass to it.

Kinda like a 45acp vs 45 gap.

Please enlighten me.

In true 10mm loads a BIG difference. High velocity and strong energy and lots of recoil. Most 10mm is loaded to near .40 S&W specs so there is no difference. But real 10mm is available. Here is some info from MidwayUSA

Buffalo Bore 180gr Speer Gold Dot JHP
10mm:
Muzzle Velocity: 1350 fps
Muzzle Energy: 728 ft. lbs.

Speer Gold Dot 180 gr JHP
.40 S&W:
Muzzle velocity: 985 fps
Muzzle energy: 400 ft/lb
