This is from a gun collection, part of an estate with which I am helping a friend.  Basically, I am trying to establish a fair market value for each item.  That whole story is in another thread, if you are interested:

This may be considered the "dog" of this collection, surrounded as it is with pristeen, older, collectable firearms.  I am completely unfamiliar with this model, and I cannot find it in my Blue Book or online.  This revolver is decribed by the owner's family as:

Ruby, X218, .38 Caliber, Short Barrel, Revolver in Leather Holster, Gabilondo Y Compania, Egoibar (Espana) Serial # 550XXX

I currently have no guidance as to the value of this gun.  The barrel indicates the chambering is "XXX"  As you can see from the pictures below, it is in excellent condition with no blemishes and hardly any wear.  It has no box, but it does have a matching fitted holster and the original paperwork.  I suspect that it would rate on the high end of values for such a handgun - if this model has any value to speak of.  I would appreciate any advice on how to evaluate/price this firearm fairly.  I would prefer to avoid the hassle and expense of having these firearms professionally appraised, but I would like to be in the right ballpark when I establish the values.

The original family-member guess at its value was $135 - is that reasonable?

My dad bought a 4" Ruby .38 and a snub Ruby .32 while in Spain on Active Duty AF.

They are both good shooters, nice finish like yours, I assume they are knock-offs of popular S and W models from the late 50s-early 60s, but I don't know Smiths well enough to tell you what they are.

I found his old reciept, he paid $30 something a piece for them, literally.

I'd think they are worth $150-250 tops.  I'd try to find some old fixed firing pin Smith police trade ins in Shotgun news and price accordingly.

No, it's not reasonable. The $30.00 is closer to actual value.
