as i will be becoming one of the armed private citizens outside the home (picking up my first autoloader in about a month. yes i'm over excited)i thought it would be a good idea try and read up on the subject. i bought the book "Combat Handgunnery 5th ed." by Massad Ayoob. great book. gives a nice overview of everything from handgun history to buying used, proper sizing, grip, stance, holsters. and even some more techincal stuff like different loads for common rounds and the legal aspect of self protection. the only downside is it seems a little cop oriented.

Any books you peeps have come across that are worth reading?

not handgun related, or necessarily shooting related but a lot of people here have read:

"Unintended Consequences"

"In the Gravest Extreme", also by Massad Ayoob.

Handgun Combatives by Dave Spaulding.

A good overview of guns, holsters, modifications and basic techniques for carrying and shooting.

Not as related to handguns, but "more guns, less crime" by John R Lott, I think thats his name. also, anything by Ayoob is pretty much the handgunners gospel if I'm not mistaken.
