Question about value

I have the opp to get a several year old but NIB Colt Gold Cup National Match in stainless.

This gun has never been fired, and I would say is New in the Box. It is in perfect condition.

Can anyone tell me retail value?

Value should be in the $700-900 range, depending on the usual variables.

IMO, Gold Cups are vastly overpriced & aren't worth anywhere near their cost. I've had too many owners tell me they aren't worth half of what they paid.

If you don't mind me asking, how much is the owner listing it for?

Depends a lot on what series the Gold cup is. I know you said several years old, but what does that really mean. Is it a pre 70, 70 series, or 80 series. The 70 series Gold cups are pretty nice, very sweet triggers.

It is an series 80, Stainless, and in excellent shape, I don't think it has ever been fired. He purchased it new in '96. Still in plasctic case and cardboard box.

This guy is a client, and he is "thinning his stuff". I actually have an S&W model 36 with 3 inch barrel, and S&W 19 with 2 inch barrel, a Pre Ban Glock 21 with 2 13 round magazines; all in addition to the Colt.

He has no idea what they are worth, and does not really need the money. He just thinks someone ought to have them that will use or appreciate them.

He has given them to me to move for him. I need to be fair to him, so I am asking around and watching the auction sites.

Blue Book lists the Series 80 Gold Cup at $700 in 98%. There's several versions of a Gold Cup as well: GC Nat. Match, GC Trophy, etc. All are virtually the same value though.

Series 80 GC were built from 1983-1996. After 1987, they became GC Trophy models.

Last MSRP was $937.

txinvestigator, I suspect a NIB Series 80 Gold Cup is worth about $800. Mine is blue and I gave $700 for it. I should also say that this Series 80 pistol is a lot better gun than the Series 70 Government I owned and sold. My Series 70 Government was bad news/a jamamatic! Regards, Richard:D

Personally, I would suggest taking it to a gun show & selling it there. IMO, it will bring a few $$$$ more there.

Or if he doesn't want to do that, a local dealer will probably do a consignment sale complete with paperwork so he'll feel safer about who bought it? Of course, I can't see a gangbanger buying a GC!

If somone makes me a good offer I will. If not, I now have a second 1911.
