Is it legal to use preban " high capacity " magazines in a postban pistol?

Generally, yes, but you may have to check local laws too. Some places decided to forego the federal laws and "make up" their own.
Here in Ohio, more than 31 rounds without reloading is classified as a machinegun
Other places may have picked the number 10 or 15 as the limit.
I think the 20 and 32 round magazines still fit the AB-10, (formerly Tec-9)its just that they only come with a 10 rounder now, for example.

But most pistols are not affected...  A large H&K that would have a threaded barrel and weigh 50oz would be affected as are AR-15 pistols...  I even wonder if UZI pistols would be affected?

Any Uzi pistol floating around will have been here well before the '94 ban,, Action Arms went out of business before the AW ban.

HK SP-89's (as marked from HK) are exempt, can have AW goodies.

The hi-caps "grandfathered" the AWB. Having them is not a crime. Making new ones is.
