It's a Colt Combat Target Model #08120E - .45 acp - SN #  CT039XXE - Series 80

Traded for it. It's used in good shape, shoots good.

Anyone know when these were offered, anything about them? I can't find much info about them.

TIA

I traded a used FN USG for it and thought I took a semi-loss on the trade. Now I'm thinking I may have not come out too bad.

If someone were to want to change the factory barrel out and have some accuracy/relibility work done, where would one seek?

Make of barrel and smith to do it?

Is a Bar-Sto barrel considered good still?

TIA

The best value in a 1911 Colt ever did.  So of course they quit making it.  Friend has one, has worked quite well.

It really shouldn't require much in the way of upgrades.  I'd shoot it for a few months before shelling out for any after market upgrades.  Not sure you would really gain much.

I first remember seeing these in the `mid 90's timeframe. You can always call Colt and get the build date.

You did good

EDIT, from a quick search on 1911forum: "the Combat Target models were made only in 1997."

Thank you. I was starting to wonder how bad a beating I took (if I took one at all). The manual was included in the original blue plastic Colt box, inside the cover it's dated 3/97.

When I was searching Google, I never noticed any returns linking to the 1911 forums? But then my ISP has been really screwey lately.

Happy Holidays fellow 1911 lovers.

you have to loose the fingered wrap around ruber grips and get a nice proper set of wooden stocks.stay away from any wrap around grips.adds to the flat guns thickness or preceved thickness.besides it looks red neck.also the mag bumper.pa lease.

You are onto something about the grips, I don't like them at all. I would like to have the original grips at some point and a nice set to put on them now.

There are tons of nice grips to choose from.  A Pony NEVER looks bad with nice Cocobolo or Ebony grips.  There's a ton of folks to choose from.

You're right! Damn, not far from here is one of the TOP gripmakers in the country...I've even been to his house years ago.

Google up "Roy Fishpaw".

His work is top shelf. I was near his place earlier today and never even considered him.

Nice find there.....yeah, I am not a fan of the rubber wrap around grips either. I would go for some nice, checkered "Slim line" grips if it were me. Is that the factory mainspring housing? It looks differnet to me...not arched or flet, but more angled. For my hands, the flat mainspring housings fit me better. What mags came with it? I use the 8 round Wilsons and also McCormicks and they have always worked great for me.

It's a "Wedge" according to an above post in this thread, first one I've ever seen. Only 1 McCormick mag came with it and I'm searching for some of the mags you mention along with a good price.

Danny, if that "wedge" MS housig doesn't suit you, let me know! It is an Ed Brown part, most likely.
