I just ordered my first Sig - a P226 with night sights.  It's 9mm.  I was looking around for magazines and have some questions:

1) Do OEM mags have a date code stamped on them?

2) Does a 20 rd. stick out of the grip?  What about an 18 rd mag?  15 rds?

3) Brownell's prices on OEM mags are $43/10 rds, $50/15 rds, $88/20 rds.  In other words, they seem pretty expensive.  Are there reliable aftermarket mags for cheaper?

4) Do the aftermarket magazines have date codes stamped on them?

Thanks for any help.

The ones before the ban were not dated and the ones you get NIB now are not dated.  Just got a 229 that came with 3 mags from Sig, 2 German zipperbacks and a MecGar that is not dated.  This is a LE sales pistol and that is why it came with 3 mags.  Seems only the "ban era" ones are dated.

20 and 18 round mags will stick out the bottom.  Not sure about the 15.

You can find them cheaper, however they are the same company that makes SIG factory mags.

Topgunsupply.com has factory and Mec-Gar mags at far better prices.  The 18 round MecGars fit flush (ok - not completely - there's a 1/8" or 1/4" end plate that sticks out, but that's it).

MecGar makes OEM mags so you can rely on them.  TopGun usually has the best prices on these.  I've ordered from them multiple times and always been pleased with their service and quick shipping.

Thanks for the tips!  I'm glad to hear the Mecgar mags are OEM equivalent.  Unfortunately, topgun supply is sold out of most of the good stuff.

So.....................if the preban ones were not dated................and the post ban ones are not dated and are marked just like the preban ones.............how will he tell..or who will know?  The ban ones are the only ones I have seen with dates and the LE/Govt logo on them.

You can also get SIG and Mec-Gar mags from Greg Cote. Check out his website at www.gregcotellc.com. Greg is a great guy and will treat you right. Buy with confidence.

I know its not popular but CTD has the 18's for the cheapest ive found.
Cheaper than Dirt

The differences between a 15 and 18 is that the follower on the 18 has been shortened and the base plate is 3/16 thick plastic instead of 1/8 steel

all the currently available sig factory and mec gars are post ban and illegal for a non leo in NY look for old school (zipper back no le mark ) sig factory mags -someone who is more of a sig expert can chime in but be VERY careful with getting the proper  LEGAL pre ban for your sig!
