I just got a Glock 19 with fixed sights and need to know a couple things...

1. With the Glock sight tool how hard is it to remove the sights and install new ones??
2. If wanting to replace the fixed sights with a set of night sights which brand would you chose???
3. Whats better Trijicon or Meprolights????
4. Who makes the top shelf stuff???

I've read, reserched and still cant decide???
Figured you Glock guru's could point me in the direction...
Thanks in advance....

first, a glock sight tool is not needed--just rip off the plastic ones w/ a pair of pliers and tap out the rears

i prefer: trijicons, Henie straight 8s, and Meps myself

meps are brighter, but not necessarily better for everyone...

I use Mepros on all my carry guns.  I love them.  If you have a Glock sight tool the job will take you maybe 5 minutes if you take your time.  I was a little scared to hammer night sights in si I got the sight tool.

Good luck.

I've had glocks mounted with stock, Aer-Tec Fiber Optic/Ghost Rings, MMC Adjustable Night Sights, and Hennie Straight Eights.  I've shot trijicons and metrops in addition.I prefer the Straight Eight's over everything I've owned or played with.  I find the 2 dot is easiest to shoot at night although its not as blindingly bright as the metrops or trijicons.  But the day sight picture is superrior; best compromise IMHO.   The MMC's were the only ones that ever moved unexpectidly; not great build quality IMHO.

The Hennies were a stone cold bioch to mount.  VERY tight...but I was using an improvised sight pusher.  I'm sure I would have been better off with a real pusher.  The MMC's and AeroTecs were easy but the MMCs moved so there you go.

Ghost Rings are not a great option for most shooters on pistols IMHO.  Keeping sight on the front sight is the key to fast accurate shooting with a pistol and with a ghost ring you loose sight of the sight twice each time the gun recoils....bad deal.   I have met an older shooter or two however for whom they worled because of their vision limitations.

I've been doing a review on an unique set of sights.

XS BIG DOT SIGHTS ARE THE BEST at least for fast self defence type shooting.

personally I train a lot for close contact fdighting with a handgun, too close for sights really. less than 5 feet.

from 5-20 feet the XS big dots work great for fast alignment. beyond 20 feet three dots are good but slow to align in the dark (slower than XS ) and at over 20 feet I'm ducking and diving to E&E the AO.if I have cover and a choice. too much liability for civilian shooting senerios.

Honestly, any sight will do.  I'd put my shooting with stock sights up against anyone with top of the lines any day.  Sure brighter night sights are good but it's all in the hands of the shooter.  I have stock sights on my 26 and glock night sights on my 23 (only because that's what they came with).  I could pay to upgrade, but why?  I carry my 26 on a regular basis.  If they day comes and some dude is trying to car jack me or rob me.  It's going to be within a 10ft radius and I won't even have to aim.  I'm no marksman and I'm not planning on competing in a top gun style competition.  I just don't see the point of getting rid of perfectly good sights because someone says a different sight is "cooler".  If you are truely new to Glocks, learn to use the weapon first, then worry about your sights.

** Sorry, If I offend.  I've been drinking and I'm killing some of the buzz being online, I just don't see the point of people stripping off sights because they think some Trijicon's are going to make them instantly better.  Save the $200 and get another gun to add to your collection. **

I'm still undecided myself if I need to spend the money on night sights. What I did do is replace the cheap plastic front sight with an ameriglo standard steel replacement.
