I have decided to start looking into getting a CHL.

The incident at VTech got me thinking alot.

I know this is going to stir up alot of opinions, but after doing some research and looking through this forum, did not find any answers for what I am looking for.

Is IWB better than outside?
- I would be carrying while doing errands mostly on the weekends.

How is comfort effected while sitting down?

Does anyone know of a guide or website that offers good tips and suggestions that help someone in finding the best setup for them by their body size and needs?

I suggest you read through most of the posts in this forum. There is a lot of info here.

IWB is generally harder to spot, but less comfortable to wear. The only way to know is to try it. Get a good holster and a great belt-- I like Alessi stuff personally.

What gun are you going to carry?

Leaning towards wither sub-compact XD or a Kimber 1911

I am partial to the full size 1911. I don't like to carry small handguns, too hard to shoot. I would rather carry a full sized gun in case I have to use it.

Whatever you get, attend a few good training classes with it.

I suggest a milt sparks versa max 2--its a decent IWB holster that doesn't take as long to get as one of the smaller shops products.

Best advice I ever heard regarding holsters:

"Get a big cardboard box, write 'old holsters' on the side, then try NOT to fill it up."

Find what works for you. I carry OWB @ 3:30, or very occasionally a shoulder holster. I don't see anything wrong with OWB carry. Tried IWB and didn't care for it - others here wont carry any other way. The 1911, due to its' narrow profile, does lend itself better to IWB carry than many other pistols.

I don't know of any website with a guide like you ask about, but www.rigrate.com has lots of good info.

I appreciate all the useful information here.

I am 5'7" with short legs and long torso, I think I could carry a medium sized 1911 pretty well.

After thinking, I would probably carry OWB for comfort.

Been finding some useful information on the web, just need to sort though it and digest the information

From what I understand, alot of it is just practice and being comfortable with what you have.

I don't have big hands, but they ain't small either. There is a gun shop near me, The Baron's Den for those in Oregon, where you can rent guns. Will be costly, but I am going to just rent as many guns as I can and borrow others.

www.packing.org might help also

1st, pick a gun that you are comfortable shooting and that is sufficient in size to conceal properly, yet handle well; make sure its reliable 100% also

2nd, dont skimp on the rig--get a good, quality holster (IWB for best concealment--Threat Solutions URC and CompTac CTAC get my vote), a good belt (wilderness), and attire

+1 on some training
