What suggestions do you have.

Glocks are out, hate the grip.

Looking at a Sig P2022 and FNP9, both $499.

FNP9 has a SAO model, so I'd go for that.

Pretty nice design, and from what I recall, the trigger wasn't terrible either. Not the best, but certainly servicable.

Bought a Smith and Wesson M&P9 today. Shoots great so far. I have heard a lot of good things about this pistol and hope mine meets all my expectations. Sig 226 is a great gun and if you can find an XDm in your price range they are decent also. Find what fits you best and go for it.

CZ P01, 06, 07. Oops those are compact sorry but still pack 14 rounds. The SP01 and SP01 Shadow are full size but more expensive––might still be available in your price range. Ruger SR9 or P95 (technically a compact).

Don't count Glocks out...With practice, they will grow on you...

And parts and accessories are unbeatable.

The only other gun that is (might be) comparable would be the XD....

But you can replace everything on the Glock with factory parts very cheaply and very easily.

All the other brands...Good luck, my friend.

Glock parts are as easy (easier in some cases) to find and customize as AR parts...

My .02

Haven't seen any CZs for under $500 new. Any good online sources?

SR9 is on the list too.

I saw the P-07 somewhere for $475 I think but I can't remember where. The others are all $550 now aparently. It was worth a shot.

S&W M&P.

I have never been able to deal with the Glock grip.... I am a revolver guy basically, but I do love 1911s. I picked up an SR9 and just had to buy it. Pretty good shootin gun and easy to carry.

OK, just ordered an M&P9 from Budsgunshop.com.

Played with one in several stores, and decided I like the grip angle a lot. Points good, stainless slide and barrel, free magazine offer.
It's my first S&W gun for about 8 years.

Bud's no interest credit for a year program on guns is a dangerous thing!

What part of TX are you in?

I have a XD-9 and a Sig P-228. If you are close to where I'm at, I'll meet you at a range and you can try them out.

I Appreciate the offer, but I have actually owned both of those. The P228 I regret selling, and the XD was a good pistol, but didn't fit my hand very well.
