I fell in love with a new Dan Wesson CBOB. The fit and finish are top notch best 1911 I have ever seen. I have been shooting 1911 A1's for about twenty years this is my second commander length pistol. And no I do not limp wrist.

I lube her up and head to the range and shoot 50 230 balls no sweat then the trouble starts. It fails to return to battery. I take her to the house and the extractor is way to tight. I clean her up give it an adjustment and off to the range. Another fifty rounds and a different problem , this happens with three different types of mags including Wilson. Slide locked back, insert full mag, realse slide and the slide moves 1/4 inch and jams the bullet into the ramp, dead stop lockup.

This pistol is a very tight slide to frame fit, as good as I have seen anywhere. If I push hard on the bottom of the mag and realese the slide about 50% of the time it will go into battery.

The ramp is perfect, the lower barrel lip perfect chamfer and polish. I am stumped.

Anyone got any ideas besides shoot the crap out of it and break it in. Maybe I am screwing up this is my first new 1911 all my others were used (broken in). This is my second DW CBOB  The first one I got runs like a champ.

Thanks

Send it back. Multiple mags show the problem is in the gun, IMO.

my shooting buddy has a dan wesson 1911. sweetest 1911 i ever fired. whoever did the trigger job knew what they were doing. his runs almost perfect. that malfunction you are having sounds like the same problem im having with my springfield hi-cap. havnt figured it out yet. case is getting hung up in the extractor area, causing the slide to stop.

how many rounds on that springer high cap?
Mine would only get failures to feed when the frame was cracked.  I cracked the frame 3 times, then I sold it for an STI.

Area of crack on mine was the rear left side of the magwell top side. Same side as the plunger tube area and same area. You need a good light to see the crack if it is there.
Round counts till slide crack.
7k first time
5k second time
2k last time.

Only mods to the gun Bormar sites added, Dawson magwell for a para, replaced MSH with a Colt plastic arched MSH, and a Dawson Fiber optic front sight. I had a EGW tungsten in the gun for about 20 shoots till it snapped in half and went down range, Dawson refuned my money.

Recoil spring 18.5 Wolf.  Could not run shock buffs, would get cut in half in 200 rounds.

Anyone got any ideas...

Thanks

Been doing alot of reading on the 1911 lately and there are a lot of extremely knowledgable people over at m1911-dot-org that could probably diagnose it for ya...

Send it back...

...but, that's what I'd do with a Dan Wesson.

It's new. Send it back.

Sounds like either a too-light recoil spring or extractor issue. The face of the extractor might be rough, bad face angle, or it's simply too tight. I'm assuming the barrel locks up okay, and the slide stops when the extractor hits the back of the cartridge case, right?

Either way, send it back (unless, of course, you're in a tinkerin' mood )

i was just over at 1911.org and i found some info on extractor tuning. it explained  how to do it. that may be the problem with  my spring field and your dan wesson.

If it were mine and I wanted to tinker with it, I'd replace the mag catch and recoil spring and try it again.
