My father got this gun in Germany in WW2.  Would someone be give me more details about it?  What model is it?  What does the insignia on the handle represent?

What you have here is:

The FN Browning M1922 was a very popular pistol in many Armies and Police forces, until the take over of Belgium by the Germans.
The "insignia" you are referring to is the logo for the manufacturer, Fabrique Nationale D´Armes de Guerre, or FN.
