I don't know how it works on the 226, but I have had several 228/229s in both 9 and .40 in the past several years.  I seem to recall using the mags rather interchangeably with no problems.  Your mileage may vary...

Factory Mags are 30, don't know if that makes a difference.

Mec-Gar 9mm 17 rounders will fit 13 rounds of .40 and work reliably.  They exceed the factory 12 rounders in capacity.  The only "problem" is the holes in the back don't line up with the cartridges letting you know how many rounds are in the mag.

If you are not comfortable using them for carry, try them out as affordable range mags for a while.  Definitely better than the USA or other no name off brands.

OOPS! Didn't notice the Kalifornia address.  Wouldn't want to encourage any illegal activity.  You're stuck with the 10 rounders and any preban mags in your state will still cost you $45 or more.

I believe MecGar makes the Sig OEM mags.

Thanks ParaJJ!

I should hope that most sig enthusiaists already knew that but I should not have assumed.

As a former Kalifornian, I'm pretty sure the OP is SOL on the high caps though.
