Back story...the gunsmith that built this pistol called me up, asking if it's ok to feature it in an upcoming article in a Japanese magazine. The photographer and author is Hiro Soga, Ichiro Nagata's understudy. He's done mostly knife articles and shoots a lot of images for Randall. So I meet up with him, he asks a bunch of questions about what was done to the Springfield and why. We talk a bit more about his work and he shows me his CV and bonafides. I leave my gear (which he asked me to bring) as well as the pistol with him for a few hours, while I hang out at a local coffee shop with my laptop and backup 1911. Come back, pick everything up, say good bye, and forget about it for almost 2 years.

Recently, I spotted a pic of the pistol that someone had posted on another site. I talked to the smith and he said the magazine was published almost a year ago. I grabbed his copy and scanned the pages.

This is a 7-8 year old Springfield EDC with approximately 20K rounds through it, including about 5,000 rounds during one class. Extremely reliable with any factory load as well as reloads (although it doesn't like RNL). It's been through a lot and has been used hard, so the pictures may not be perfect.

Picking it up is like shaking hands with an old friend, which in this case is true, since I've been shooting 1911's for a little while now.

Sweet weapon. There is not much better than having a 1911 just like you want it and having enough experience to know what that means.

Will O'Hara. Tyop or maybe missed in the translation? A buddy of mine said that 1911's are like the 10/22's of the pistol world, and it's very true in this case. If I would build it again, I'd do it exactly the same way.

Did they make a mistake?

Ionbond Tungsten DLC at about 10K rounds. It sits in Kydex most of the time.

This is what it looked like before the DLC
