How much? |

I like it. You did a good job on the beavertail. Send the slide off to get sights.
I personally don't care for Pachmayr but if they work for you it's all good.
Nice gun. |

Well, minus the lanyard loop I think you nailed it.
Shoot it 'til you run out of bullets or daylight. :) |
Not a fan of the grips, but they do lend a MEU(SOC) look to it. Is the front sight staked or dovetaileld? GI or Novak cut on the rear?
Regardless of those little personal preference quibbles, I'd take it if someone gave it to me, and I'd enjoy every minute of shooting it. Take pride in your weapon sir, you did a good job. |

Factory sights: staked front, GI rear dovetail. I'm seriously considering sending the slide off to Novak's. I'm still on the fence over whether it is worth $185 to have them install some low mounts. |

My NM Mil-Spec is my main shooter.I did less than you did to yours.Bobbed the hammer, put a trigger in it and some VZ grips on it.It is the most accurate 1911 i have owned.
Been into them steady since '76,so i have had a few go thru my hands. ETA: Also blacked out the sights.Don't like three dots at all.And rubber grips have no place on my pistols. |
Great job on the upgrades. I agree with the retro Harrison sights mentioned above. That would tie it all together IMO.
good lookin gun buddy. i like the look of novak's but thats just me. whatever works for you and makes it go boom. only thing that would look better in the pic is to have it cocked and locked.
Looks good. I've done most of the same things on mine except for the grips and I used the S&A grip saftey with the bump. Mine's at the shop having the 10-8 rear installed and the novak front and the front strap checkered. Nice work!
Nicely done. I prefer a 10-8 rear sight and a short trigger (but thats just my personal taste). Good job.
I prefer a palmswell on my grip safety, but that's just me. Not a huge fan of the Pachmyers, but if they work for you that is what matters. Looks like a darned fine shooter to me.
i personally would get some new grips and some sights and you will definitely be set
You did a really good job on that beavertail. I'd definitely be happy with that.
What is this Cold Parkerize stuff? I've been using cold blue and it looks like hell. |

Its more like cold parkerizing, rather than a cold blue. It's tough stuff and can be applied and blended over existing parkerizing. |

That will keep my pistols looking a lot better between projects. I've been smearing cold blue on them (with obviously crappy results). I'll DEFINITELY be looking into this on my next Brownells order. |

There's not much I'd change; maybe swap that snag-prone rear sight for something a little more rounded like a Harrison Retro, but that's a minor quibble.
The Pachmayrs are fine grips and provide frontstrap texturing without being too sticky; I'd leave them right where they are. |

I dig it. No non-sense.

You don't NEED them –– you're just aligning the front sight. $185 and shipping buys a bunch o' bullets –– which becomes brass which becomes reloads. Repeat as needed. Over the years there have been many variants from re-built GI 1911A1s through Springfields. Others use the harrison Retro rear sight. http://i43.tinypic.com/qyd1ue.jpg I really dig that. |
Beautiful pistol, cant wait till i have the money to upgrade mine.

I could live with it. Me too. Looks like a basic hard-use 1911. No bubba-bolt-on to it. |
It looks great.
You pull the trigger, it goes bang. What more could you ask for? |
I think it's nicer looking than the MC operator I just traded. I like those grips without the medallion and the flat head grip screws look very cool. Nice looking shooter.
ETA: grammar fix |
Purdy. Black trigger and different grips would be all I would change. Very nice work.
That MilSpec looks pretty good. I want mine to look like that someday. Just like others have said, I don't care for the grips but those are easily changed if you decide you don't like them.
On a side note, that Springfield half way down the first page is amazing. That wear is just sexy! Clearly it has been through a lot, and of course it's still going! |

I like the YoBo or 10-8 retro rear myself. Combine that with a gold bead front sight, and it's IMO perfect. |

Purdy. Black trigger and different grips would be all I would change. Very nice work. I second this, with maybe a black bushing. These are just little nit-picking stuff, though, and all in all it looks like a nice job and a utilitarian pistol. |
Hey, I like it. You did an awesome job on the beavertail. Wanna do mine? BD
Nice sensible pistol you have there. Nice job on the beavertail. I don't care for Pachmayrs myself but they actually look decent on that gun. I would be fine with the sights as they are now but if the money isn't a problem an upgrade to 10-8s or Novaks would be nice too.
i dont care for that trigger but thats just personal preferance. other than that it looks very nice
I did pretty much the same thing. Bare bones Springfield Mil-Spec 1991 A1. I figured out where it shot, then a custom turned barrel bushing, long trigger w/ trigger job, and Pachy wrapped grips. The only thing different was I added a Champion adjustable target sight. It shoots just as good as any Kimber I've found at alot less of a price!!
I would send it off for the Novaks , change the grips and put a short trigger in it if it was mine.
Very nice. I think it deserves some nicer stocks, but it's your shooter. Otherwise a clean, practical piece.

sights, ambi safety, trigger, grips, front strap checkering... in that order, for me. nice work! |
