I'm looking at buying a 1911, I already have a Glock 17 9mm with a ton of 33 rd mags, so I just want to add a 1911 to my collection and i'm looking for a Government size Mil-Spec 1911, I thought about RIA or a used Para. A friend of mine has a RIA and I like it a lot, i'm just looking for some input on this from someone else. Does anyone have any experience with the RIA 1911's or the Para's?

The two quality names at the moment are Colt, and Springfield Armory.

Around 500 or so. I saw a Kimber Custom for $675 at a pawn shop a few days ago but it was being looked at when I saw it and the guy bought it :( I would have jumped on it so quick. I've got the money to buy a Brand new Kimber but I think my wife would kill me... When I spent Close to $2,000 on my Glock and Colt LE6920 she wasn't too happy...

plenty of kimber cutom II's out there for less than $700 new if that's what you want....Kimber....if your looking to stay in the $400 range the RIA is the best option.....I cant comment on the Para....

I don't mean to steal your thread, I was actually planning on making a thread on buying a new 1911 as well.

I was initially wanting to buy a Colt LE6920 but I thought to myself hey, 1911 is the way to go. Same price, and a classic gun. I already have a G19 and a G23. Why not add at .45 to my collection right?

I have been lurking around the 1911 discussions for a while all the way until the last page of threads and I have decided I want to go with a Springfield or a Colt 1911.

My budget is about $1000. $1200 TOPS OTD. It's going to be an at home gun/range gun. I'll never carry it. I have an Old Faithful holster that houses both my G19 and G23.

I have been hearing things about the Springfield MC Operator, TRP, Loaded and the new Colt Rail gun.

There have been many mixed discussions between the springfield and colt. BUT taking into consideration, those threads are months old so I don't know if anything has changed since then with the parts or the company.

What do you guys recommend me getting? I'm open to other Springers or Colt guns. What are your opinions on those guns listed?

I own a couple of 1911's. one is an RIA. It is a great pistol, but if I were getting 1 do-it-all pretty well 1911, I would be getting the park'd Springfield 1911 loaded with night sights. GREAT GUN! Should run well OOTB.

I recently got a Cimmaron from Cabelas for $399. I don't know if they still have them, or at that price. It is alledgedly made by RIA. It has been good so far. I also have a RIA on order, they are hard to get right now. I also found a used Springfield Mil-Spec for $500 at a pawn shop. RIA or springfield should be good.

I love my 6920, i've ran over 3,000 rounds out of it without a single hickup.

I'm between a Kimber Custom and a Springfield Loaded at the moment, I decided I might as well not go with the cheapest one I can find.

It depends on what you want....
A beater that you can shoot or a safe queen.

RIAs are good pistols. Very accurate at a $500 price point. Add a $150 to $200 and you are in the realm of Springfield, Ruger and a couple of others as you've noted. Add another $100 and you can get a nice Colt. I have owned an RIA, a Colt and a Ruger. I will probably buy another RIA at some point. Most likely not a Colt. I still own the Ruger.

Or you can go up the food chain and spend $1200 - $1500 and get an SA Operator, Loaded or TRP. I have shot the TRP, not owned, very sweet.

I figured if I got a 6920, i'd be spending more money on optics, etc. so I went the 1911 route.

I would also take a hard look at the STI Spartan.

This...very good gun for the money......move into the $700 range and the Springfield Range Officer comes into play if your interested in forged frame & slide.....

I bought a Springfield Loaded recently. I can't imagine a better gun for the money
